I saw this huge banner at a tanning salon yesterday while we were going out to the mall.... Over the door to a salon a big yellow banner with hugh red letters " H O T bulbs tan HERE" Umm NO thanks!!! I will tan at my salon that has frosted acrylic and a nice cool touch to the bed. Why do some people associate heat with tan ? I was complaining to my boyfriend in the car when we drove by the sign he isnt a tanner and said, well the sun is hot and you get tan.. WOW i was like good lord, ever hear of uv rays brainiac LOL he said oh sorry miss tanning online LOL

When I first started tanning I associated heat with a better tan. Now I know better. I know people who wait until late in the afternoon so that the bed will be very warm.

You are SO right!!!! You do not have to get hot to get tan. We keep our salons at 65 degrees,,,,best for the beds and bulbs. Do you really want me to tell you how many times a week I hear...I didn't get anything....I didn't even sweat!!!!

If you sweat, you sweat all that good lotion right off of you.

My hubby used to think the same thing. I finally convinced him that the heat has nothing to do with the tan.

Many can't be convinced. Doesn't mean that I won't stop trying.

I enjoy going in the mornings when the beds are nice and cool.

The super bed I use gets very hot since it's totally enclosed. But I still don't sweat in it. It has many fans, I just crank them up.

I guess it's the old "burning your skin is good" mentality.... I read somewhere that the beds actually become LESS EFFECTIVE as they get hotter during the course of the day. oh man, now I'm gonna have to find that.

Since I go at lunch time it used to be nice and cool, now that it's Prom season it's been packed and I HATE to get in a hot bed. You get all sweaty and gross. Ewwwww!

Chica, if you find that, post it.

Man, if that isn't one misconception, isn't it. more heat != more tan. Nope. I keep telling people its the Ultraviolet rays that gets people tan, NOT infrared! Well, nobody ever listens to me in real life...
Skiers need as much UV protection as beach goers because the air is thinner up there and less ozone to protect the skin from UVB, and counting the light reflecting off of the snow. Heat has nothing to do with it at all.
The only thing I can think of is when they say hot bulb, they mean a bulb that puts out more % UVB light and is high output / wattage.

In case if you were wondering, != means not equal.

that is a big misconception, that I feel into my tanning season.
