I went to yet another new salon Friday and they make you clean your own bed. You get the towels at the front desk you take 2 and clean both before and after. This is the first time I have encountered this. The other salons I go to clean the bed for you and have your towel waiting for you on the cleaned bed. Just wanted to know what ya'll thought of this.

thanks,
mtee

I've only had that at one salon that I tried but the problem was they weren't even going to tell me, I saw a woman walk out of the room and the girl told me to go ahead in so I asked her "aren't you going to sanitize the bed?" and she said Oh yea the stuff is in there just do it yourself. I wouldn't have a problem with it, but I think they should tell you ahead of time, what if I hadn't seen anyone come out - Well I have never been back there anyway cause the whole place was really nasty! Every other place I've been to they have the beds cleaned and the sign and towel in the bed also.

Ther isn't one really great salon around me, but at at least they all clean the beds for you. They all put little signs on it afterward that say "This bed has been sanitized". Makes me wonder if it is a law. I know there is a (state) law that they have to provide eyewear.

nope i have never cleaned my own bed (unless one of my friends working was understaffed and asked me to help her out)

At all of our salons the clients clean their own beds. Over the years we have had so many that want to clean their own bed either before or after we started leaving sanitizer in each room. Then so many on their way out would say "I cleaned the bed" that we were repeating it over and over. So it has become policy "the client cleans before and after" and that is the way they want it, so it helps keep costs down and all are happy.

No, every one I have visited here cleans the beds between clients.

The salon I go to cleans the beds for you, but they also leave the bottle of cleaner in the room. I trust they clean the beds, but I have friends that will clean the beds before they go in. My salon also leaves the towel, eye wear and a mint on the bed after they clean. And oh man, they put out some good candy! Christine always puts out Orange/Cream CremeSavers!

there is one place I go that makes you clean your own bed, I clean it before & after. I don't really mind, at least I know how clean the bed is when I get in. it takes a little longer to get in and out, but we start our beds whenever so that's not a problem. I go there because she has great beds, fresh lamps and the price is SO cheap! like $3 a session. I imagine that's how she keeps the cost so low, because when you clean your own bed, she only needs 1 person working there at a time.

The one i go to does. It bothers me because the girls there just stand around most of the time.
I wouldnt go there but they have the best beds in town.

At my salon you clean your own bed before and after. I prefer it this way though. This way I know that everything is clean and cleaned to my liking. It really isn't that much of a hassle to clean your own bed. When I tan at salons that clean the beds for you, I always wonder how much effort the person really has put into cleaning my bed. I'm sure they clean the beds good enough, but still, I wonder.

In my opinion, any salon that requires clients to clean their own bed is not a professional salon. Tanning is supposed to be a luxury and a time to relax [for most people anyway] and the LAST thing I would want to do is clean my own bed BEFORE and AFTER I tanned!

I reccomend that anyone here that has to clean their own bed find a more professional salon that does this for you!

I've been to three places where I had to clean the bed, but they weren't tanning salons. One was a fitness/supplement store that had two beds in the back room. Another was an insurance agency (yes, an insurance agency!) that had a bed in their back room. And also a hairstyle place that had one bed. I don't go to that sort of place anymore, only places that specialize in tanning.

I cant imagine cleaning your own bed.....I work at a salon and thats what we are paid to do...if I didnt clean beds then all I would do is wait on people.....I look at it as, when you pay for tanning you are also paying for the services of the salon which should include a well educated staff, cleaning up after the client, and the customer being able to come into a friendly atmosphere and relaxing! We make a point to tell our cutomers to just leave everything in the room and we will take care of it!

Nope, the beds are cleaned by the staff between each tanner. Cute little sign that says "this sunbed has been sanitized" gets placed on there then. I do use a towel to wipe the bed down after I wipe myself off, to make it easier on them, in case I've left some lotion or sweat behind though. Just seems like a nice thing to do, and takes 10 seconds. I can see how having people clean their own beds could help out in a busy salon that is understaffed, but the place I go to isn't very busy most days, seems like the employees are always on the phone, or whatever, just chatting. (which is fine by me, I've had those slow days at work myself--as long as they put down the phone when a customer comes in!)

I only get the candy at the one salon I go to. It is a small new place that has the Matrix. It is so clean an neat, I love it over there. It's funny the small things that make your tanning experience a plesant one!

I am a salon owner just opening. In my salon I have decided that my staff will clean the beds after our guest has left the room. I believe that tanning should be a relaxing experience and you shouldn't have to worry about picking up after yourself. As a mother I am always picking up after someone so it would be nice for some one to pick up after me once in a while and that is what you get at my salon. We are a FULL service tanning salon. And my clients are not just customers - We think of them as our guests so they are treated as so!!!

one salon i went to had cards that said the bed has been cleaned but then it had a line for their name. So it was like "This bed has been cleaned by _____" I thought that was really nice, it showed that the employees care.

yes but only because i work there. i clean everyone else's too. believe it or not, its easier to clean the bed yourself as an employee. that way, you know when it is available, especially if you are walk-ins only like we are and you don't have to check 1000 times to see. and to those who clean the sweat off of your own beds, THANK YOU!!! i should start a thread on that...

It is wrong for a salon to expect the clients to clean their own beds. Think about it, do you trust some random person to properly sanitize your bed? And no, Windex is NOT an appropriate substitute, nor is any kind of glass cleaner. They are bad for the acrylics, but more importantly, they do not sanitize.

There is a proper procedure for cleaning beds. Every surface that a client may have touched must be sanitized completely, including bed sides and hand grips. Also, the solution has to sit on the bed for about 30 seconds to properly sanitize.

I agree that tanning is a relaxing thing. You are paying for your tanning, this should come as a comprehensive service, including the actual tan, being provided with a clean bed (and not having to do it yourself), and having professional help available if you need assistance.

My salon doesn't make you clean your own beds. Actually, during the busy tanning season, they actually have employees called "bed cleaners," whos job is to specifically sanitize the bed. I fully trust them. I don't think I would want to pay my salon for me to have to clean the bed, but that's just me.

I switched salons, and I still don't have to clean my bed or booth thankfully! One of their beds acrylics was ruined by someone using baby oil, so it stinks when I'm stuck in that one! But we get to choose which room and bed we go into! It's so awesome and laid back, but you can always hear the cleaner go in there after you're done. Comforting!

Ok this is emyloulou posting on brianna's sceen name because the computer is still acting funny I just wanted that to be clear first! Oh and Teresa I guess out salon is gross and unprofessional because out clients clean there own beds! What's the big deal! I would rather clean my own bed and know I sanitized it, then wait for some girl I don't know take 10 minute's to clean while I wait in the lobby! Our clients don't mind at all! Actually I am so sure that some prefer it! So it's not gross to have to clean your own bed and its not rude! It's part of tanning!

They clean the bed for me before I go in but I always help them out and clean it before I'm outta there. No one wants to see ur greasy imprint on the acrylic!!! and if U sweat a lot it's gross!!! So I figure I'll clean it all not just wipe up my sweat...it takes the same amount of effort. I know they clean it before ANYONE goes into a bed but I also think they appreciate people who clean up after themselves.

Yup I clean you clean your own bed at my place. But its at a gym so the 2 workers on duty dont have time to actually go in there after every person tans to clean it. Just to be safe I clean the bed BEFORE I tan and AFTER I tan just so I know its clean when I use it and when the next person uses it. So if im being lazy a certain day I just use the stand up so theres nothing to clean haha.

I was told today that one of the part-time girls was let go because she hadn't cleaned any beds or washed the in house towels before she left Sunday night! I will give my salon credit where it is due, they run a clean ship if not a tight one! Just imagine being the morning person for Monday and not having clean towels, having to clean the beds reading dirty on the computer, put the dirty laundry in the machine, and fold it all back up again because one person didn't do their job...or finding out after a few customers complained about dirty beds???

I don't know...I would never trust anyone else besides the salon employees to clean the bed. First of all, they are getting PAID to do it. The regular customers aren't, so what is the incentive for them to do a good job? Also, if customers start asking to clean their own beds, that should be a red flag to owners and employees to step up their cleaning abilities and stop leaving smudge marks or residue.

You cleaning up after yourself? I think that is odd; the salon is a service, and using the facilities in the way you do for tanning must require hygiene standards expected to be met by the business itself because it is responsible to uphold it. Hence they should be the ones cleaning everything up without any dispute.

At my salon, we do both. We leave the sanitizer in the rooms and ask that each customer clean the bed when they are finished. We then go in and do "double duty" and clean with sanitizer and windex, empty trash cans, etc. This way the bed is sanitized and the acrylics are clean. (the results will amaze you) and it helps keep the beds and the rooms extra clean. Yes a tanning salon is a service, but I personnaly would prefer to clean up my own sweat than have someone else.

I think it is terrible to make a client clean their own bed. We clean ALL beds before each client. We run a extremely "clean" salon and have been praised by my clients.

To me its a sign of lazyness, its our job to provide clean and sanitized beds and goggles. In fact at my salon, we not only sanitize the bed, the sanitizer sign the chair in the room and the plastic mat after each and every patron leaves. If it warrants, we use the hand sweeper to pick up the lint.

My salon cleans the beds. They also have stacks of clean tanning towels on the counter as you pass by to go to the beds, and paper towels in the rooms, as well as clean goggles, but I use my own anyway.

VIP membership is 30 a month with unlimited tanning in the base beds, super 10's and 20 min. bronzer beds...upgrades vary from 7 to 15 dollars with this membership with a 20% lotion discount...but it still works out to be pretty expensive if you tan a lot. I think that bed cleaning is def. something that should always be included by the salon.

I Don't really think it is a HORRIBLE IDEA, cause some people that go into the salon I go to ask the girls to "Make sure it's clean". It's a very high class salon, I know they clean well, but you never know. Some people do like to clean their own beds.
