View Full Version : Should I do it?

There is a salon nearby that has unlimited tanning for one month for 50 dollars. This includes the Omega (genuine high pressure), the Orbit, the Hex, and some low pressure beds. I'm trying to justify the cost. I have a membership at another salon but it doesn't have true hp beds, just very good mp beds. What do yall think?
(Please, no lectures on the "you really shouldn't use hp beds more than every couple of weeks or so"!)

I think $50.00 for unlimited is a great price - The local beauty salon with only 1 bed (thats stuck in a closet/room) they get $50.00 for a month- That seems to be the price up here where I live and none of them have more than 2 beds- A 30 day membership at the place I travel to is $109.00 - So it sounds like you're getting a great deal.

the main reservation i have with them is the fact that they strongly discouraged a friend of mine from using the omega bed, and when they finally did let her use it, they did not give her the full time. it's all uva, she is not prone to burning at all, but they still tried to keep her off of it. i asked them how long they would let me on it, she hesitated (of course, i had already read the specs by then and keep in mind that i am VERY tan) and said probably 20 minutes (the max time) since i probably would not burn on it. i KNOW i wouldn't burn on it. decisions, decisions...i don't want to have a catfight with these girls. btw, this is the same salon i talked to on the phone recently, where the girls/owners could NOT tell me the wattage on the bulbs in the different beds, including the omega.

If you find the people that work there hard to deal with than you may end up not wanting to go - How about just doing single sessions when you really want a hp bed? How expensive are there sessions? I pay $7.00 for a session in the little place and $12.00 at the bigger salon w/ choice of bed- Right now I don't have a membership anywhere.

I think $50 unlimited for a month for all those beds is a great price, but like Ladyboss said, if the employees aren't all that friendly or knowledgeable you may not want to do it and just tan there on occasion.

I agree; on the other hand, Laura, you know you WANT to do this! You and I have to keep pushing the envelope to see who can be the most insanely obsessed tanner!

Darn it Bonnie! Don't tell me that! I'll be an old hag next year if I don't slow down my tanning!

Usually if a salon is telling you how long to tan it is because they are trained in picking exposure times for their customers. It is not that they are trying to cheat you or your friend out of a full session but trying to give you the best results without burning.

Tan Larue, I have a deep, dark, downright luscious tan! There is absolutely no reason for my time on their beds to be shortened. I just don't trust these two girls. This is the only salon I have ever been to where I felt as though the owners were not being upfront with me. I have visited about 16 this summer, so they are definitely the exception! Better pass for now. Might change my mind tomorrow though....(woman's perogative you know..)

Laura I'm a salon owner and I confess I only know the wattage on my highest pressure bed, but I can tell you the uva output and I know that my superbed is a once a week use to maintain and my standard is 3 times a week to maintain. Higher wattage doesn't necessarily = better tan especially if they don't maintain their bulbs

We have a rule of not the full time if it's your first time tanning with us, even with a base tan. I'm sorry I don't have the benefit of knowing what kind of vibe you're getting from them, but i feel they must have your best interest at heart. They're not trying to cheat you out of time, it doesn't add much to a session by running a bed a few extra minutes. Just put yourself in their place, if you own a business, you can't take a chance of possibly hurting someone, knowingly.
The main thing is if you are already distrustful of them will you be able to be happy there? best of luck.

I did tan with them one time before, on an Orbit bed. I'm still tempted but I am concerned that although they say I can use whatever bed I want, they will do everything in their power to keep me out of the Omega. I am NOT going to burn in that bed and it is my business whether or not I want to prematurely age my own skin! Do they think I will walk around with a shirt on saying "I look like crap because I was a member of Body Infinity"?

dude! forget the people, i paid $32 here in so. cal for ONE SESSION in the omega!! it's really nice but i feel like it didn't even tan me. if i could go more consistantly for only $50 i'd do it, even if the peeps were lame. i think that's a great deal, if the place is clean & everything.

I think 50.00 for unlimited tanning is a good deal, but how often can you tan? Everyday or every other day?
Tamar

I don't let anyone tan for the full session either, if they are a new face. An established customer is also discouraged from going a full session if they have not been in for a while. From the other side of the counter, it is a liability issue.

$50 for unlimited in a true HP is good! Here it's $56 for 3 visits in the HP bed.

It is a great deal, almost too good to be true. As I said, I have tanned there before and I have an extraordinarily dark tan. Since my last post about visiting 16 salons, I have been to several more, one of which included a high pressure 30 minute bed that I used on my FIRST visit there. Folks, I am TAN! These girls are just really young and since most of their beds are lp, and just a couple are mp and only one hp, I still hesitate to give them ANY of my money. Tamar, are you telling me that you only allow your regular customers to use the hp bed once a week?

I guess I'm spoiled living in my little town of Spokane, but almost anywhere (even the spas) you can get a month unlimited for $30, and even cheaper at the nail salons. Still, that's for normal beds, nothing high pressure, so I think you're definitely getting a good deal. Go for it!
