I have never used one, and I do not think that I would want to try one...
My personal opinion, i'd rather get the real deal tan...

But I can see why some people would want to try, because they want to stay away from UV...

Lets be sure we are all on the same page. These booths were really invented for the person who either will not or cannot tan in a tanning bed. There are some side benefits that sort of roll into that including the tanner that forgot they were getting married tomorrow and needs to be tan, that sort of thing. The truth is that we get lots of that traffic but about half of our traffic includes tanning bed customers.
That said, these units are not all that new, they have been stateside for over 4 years now and Mystic alone has over 1000 units in North America. These are a minor part of the total tanning industry right now but they are the fastest growing segment by far of the industry. In 5 years at the current rate they would be larger than most any other segment of the industry. They are here to stay and they are getting better in their application every day.

Why would anyone want to go to a salon to have sunless tanning lotion sprayed on them? Why not just buy a bottle and put it on at home?

meltdbutta
05-02-2003, 10:09 PM
Because it is considered a 'treatment'
A person will pay for this, because they do not want to rub in a sunless lotion...

It also gives a more even application and it dries in seconds

My boyfriend is considering this for his brother's wedding.. Any tips? Will just one time give him a good tan for two weeks? That's what the lady at my salon told him...I'd much rather get a tan via the bed, its sooo relaxing!!!

i visit will give you color that will last about a week. Do a couple of sessions in 3 or 4 days to get some real nice color.

two weeks? um no... he'd have to do the mystic tan probably 4 times for two weeks... two sessions a week.
exfoliate b4 u go into the mystic tan, make sure u moisturize your skin veeeeeeeery good It'll help the solution absorb evenly. make sure u wipe down totally some people think that keeping it on or "letting it sink in" is gonna give them a darker tan but they end up streaky. i followed the instructions from the video they show u make sure u moisturize elbows and knees really good. i did this after i had tanned so i had pretty much just slathered myself in a water based lotion so my color went on very evenly, i looked really dark (well i have great color to begin with but i looked amazing) and after u do this keep your skin very moisturized it helps keep your "tan" longer. and the longer u stay dry after being sprayed the darker u will get. they say not to shower a minimum of 4 hrs after u do it but i actually waited 15 hrs and let me say i would probably try for even longer when i do it again

I tried this today for the first time, and have to say it is AWESOME!!!! My tan is about 3 shades deeper and it looks great! no problems with streaking or anything, great way to freshen my tan, my mom is almost black from it, she loved it too.

I did the Mystic Tan a lot before I finally decided to get the real thing. I was neon white but had a nice golden color after using it. The problem for me was that the tan stayed about 3-4 days before it started to look spotty and it cost at least $15-$25 per session.

I think the Instant Tan is a great compliment to any salon. As long as you have well trained staff and they take their time with each customer, they will have great results!

depending on your skin you may end up totally orange. there are no studies to show if it's safe if you inhale the stuff when you're being sprayed. it washes off in 2-3 days so if you do 2-3 sessions a week it's a lot more expensive than tanning. dha stinks, more on some people than others but it's never pleasant.

Star, very little of what you posted is true.

1. I have sprayed over 2500 people and nobody ended up totally orange. I doubt it has ever happened that anyone eneded up totally orange.
2. The FDA has certified the spray booths as alright to use. Maybe you know a different FDA than I do but I doubt they would certify them as safe unless they were.
3. It does not wash off after 2-3 days. A spray treatment lasts about 7 days.
4. It can be more cost effective than tanning for someone who does not tan easily. 1 session can produce a tan while multiple sessions may not produce a tan for some skin types.
5. I am not a big fan of the DHA smell either. It can be all right for some but I have tried some solutions that are neutral in their smell and they are nice.
I am curious where you got your information/opinion about spraying. I have gotten mine by doing thousands of sprays in my salon. Where did you get yours?

totally orange can mean a very different thing to you than me. maybe if you see hundreds of clients in a row they all start to look alike and you don't notice the difference too much but i have seen people who get sprayed and they don't look tanned, they look fake. don't say what i say isn't true unless you can prove it, and you cannot prove that i have not seen people looking more orange than brown with the spray on.

i thought the fda had approved dha for topical use that does not mean being in a room where the stuff is in an aerosol form.

how long it lasts depends on each person's skin, how often they shower and if they exfoliate each shower.

good luck with the spray in your salon, i am glad to hear it works well for you.

I don't want to get into a spitting match with your Star but when you say totally orange I get a pretty vivid view of what you have in mind. On the FDA topic do you think it would be allowed to be sold if the FDA had any basis at all to think it was lethal? What I was responding to in a forthright way was what I think is an over the top statement on spray on tans by you that just is not the same view as what I find day in and day out in my world. Just for what it is worth. It does not matter to me if you spray or not, it is not for everyone. Nothing is. However, truth is truth.

rich, anyone ever get any orange??

Rich
05-04-2003, 07:16 PM
We have never had anyone turn orange from using our booths. You can develop an orange tint to elbows and knees that are really dry. People who are really really white may develop a slight orange tint the first time and that is resolved on the second treatment.

Anya1976
05-04-2003, 07:21 PM
I personally didn't stink really bad after being sprayed it had a sweet smell to me. but pretty much everyone who has used a dha bronzer knows there is a slight smell to it.. so i don't see it as a drawback.

Rich i do not want to get into anything with you either. obviously if this service is a huge seller for you then you have a vested interest. i do not. i thought this was a place for tanners to exchange views. if the fda approved it for one use does not mean it is approved for everything and anything. there is a big difference is putting something on your skin and breathing it in.

Anya1976
05-04-2003, 07:30 PM
I am sure the FDA has checked all aspects of this machine.

star
05-04-2003, 08:34 PM
as far as i know, the fda has investigated dha such as in sunless lotions, but i have not seen evidence that hey have investigated or approved the solution in a whole-body spray form, so that if a person cannot hold their breath the entire time, they could breathe it in. i would love to see some research that proves me wrong.

We have 2 mystic tans at our salons and we also distribute mystic booths. It has been a total hit. Most people do them once a week to maintain their color. We all do it and love it and get great results. Tanning and using a tingle lotion (or any that isn't oil based) before you mystic and it opens your pores up even more...if you have any questions let me know!

I have heard that you get better results with the mystic also rather than the airbrush machine!

UltraTanChick, we have 2 Mystic booths in our salon also. Our distributor for Mystic out of KC has 2 in each of his salons too. I did not know there were that many people in the country that had 2 of these in 1 salon. We are thinking we might add a 3rd for next year but it will probably be the year after. It just keeps growing and growing.

I have a mystic tan also at my salon just got it a month ago and have dont about 600 so far i must say i agree with rich almost a 100% on everything but one thing i have noticed is some people seem really eager to bash this. Like the one where someone is waiting for a bed and someone comes out of the mystic and they go man she was ORANGE ah duh its only been 5 min not 4 hours orange to one person seems to be dark to others. I know this mystic is the real deal it will work for you if you follow directions. I think everyone should try it

well make sure you moisturize b4 u use this that way some drier parts of your body do not absorb more of the solution. use the hair cap it keeps your hair off your neck and face. watch the video b4 doing it. the salon SHOULD have an instructional video. iloved the results i got from it.
