This isn't something that happened to me, but my sister - it's alot funnier to her now than it was then...
Her and a bunch of her friends decided they wanted to go tanning before a speech tournament. So it's probably 3 days before hand, and all 7 of them, none of which go tanning on any sort of regular basis, are looking for a cheap salon because they have no money. They finally find a really cheap salon (I think the deal was like 8 tans for $8 or something) and go in. This place is like really tiny. They go in, they pay, and this woman at the counter seems to know absolutely nothing about how long any of them should be in a bed etc. (my sister actually didn't end up tanning, but she was supposed to for 20 minutes and she's like REALLY fair!) Since they only had a couple beds, two girls bought the woman's "recommended" lotion and went in. Two minutes later they come out of the beds bright red and burning (because the lotion they bought was a tingle lotion) and they're like "Why do we feel like we're on fire!!" and the lady is like "I don't know, sometimes it reacts badly with people's skin." They got their money back and walked out of there. The place was so dirty and the beds looked like they hadn't been cleaned in the past few days. Not only did this woman have NO CLUE about people's skin types, and not giving a first time tanner a tingle lotion, she also didn't make any of them sign a release form! I'm pretty sure it's the law in my state that if you're 16 and under, yo uhave to have permission from a legal guardian to tan (Anya can back me up on this). Only one of the girls (my sister) was 17, so they all should've had to get something signed...someone needs to step up the regulation on this joint!

That's awful! I doubt she inforces people wearing eye protetion either. I hope she gets reported to the health department.

yea it is the law that u have to be 16 and if u are under 18 you HAVE to have a release form signed and it's not one of those bring it home and bring it back they want the parent to come to the salon and sign it in front of an employee

Someone that unknowledgable should not even be in business.

That experience is awful.... I know you said it is a lot funnier now than when it happened, but i dont think it's that funny at all now, either. I sure hope that they all recovered quickly from that experience, and know that most salons are not like that. That is really too bad that had to happen to them.

I had a similar thing happen to me. When I was 17, I went to a tanning salon and it was just a little private owned one, the guy who owned it lived upstairs from it and was really creapy like he had to be watching every girl that came in there. But my first time going there he let me go twenty minutes and I was so red. I had to go to a dance two nights later, it was the worst ever.

As a salon owner, I see no humor in this. Stories like this make me appreciate this board to help educate the client to know how to TAN SMART, or to know when to run.
