Is it okay to open my eyes while tanning if I have Wink-Ease on?

Yes. The wink-ease are FDA compliant and they were developed so you can see through them.

Wink-ease are a great form of eye protection. You can open your eyes with them on and are completely protected from the dangerous UV rays. They are also much safer because they are disposable so you are not going to catch any diseases from unsanitized eye protection. Even if you have your own eye protection ...how often do you sanitize them???? Wink-ease are the best!!!!!
I tried wink ease and like them better than sun globes...but I still feel like light is getting in on the sides! Not much but it scares me! HELP!
Any suggestions?

AG makes a similar product but instead of being 2 pieces it is one piece and the eye covers are connected by a clear strip.
I would suggest that you use a regular pair of goggles if you are really worried about the light.

I think you are referring to No Rays.

I probably need to sanitize my eyewear wouldn't you say Teresa? Will hot water and soap work or do I need something stronger?
teresa

I would recommend soaking them in bed cleaner for 10 minutes......put some in a baggie with your goggles. And the wash with hot water and soap afterwards.

teresa, would rubbing alcohol work instead of bed cleaner?
teresa

I am not sure.....I don't think it would hurt. I would just think you should use a mild soap and water after whatever you use to sanitize them to avoid eye irritation. There are sanitizer that are made specifically for eyewear also if your salon uses that you may be able to get some from them.

I have Sunglobes and you can see out of them in the middle (the dark area), so I can open my eyes right?? or no??

Rubbing Alcohol kills germs. If these are your personal use I would say yes go ahead rub the alcohol and wash them with soap and water afterwards. You should be just fine.
I am not familiar with sun globes, but I am assuming they are FDA compliant which means yes you can open your eyes without fear. HOWEVER, an important feature on any eyewear is the "string" ... Most eyewear with a string is not compliant unless you actually wear the string.. (Otherwise you get "leakage")

I was on vacation and missed this thread! Yikes!
-- Absolutely, you can open your eyes with any compliant eye protection product on, they are made to be able to see to check the time, change the radio, change the fan speed all without taking off your eye protection
-- Australian Gold no longer makes No Rays. If you have a concern about light coming in the side of Wink-Ease, try Viewkeepers, also by Eye Pro. They were invented just for that reason.
--To avoid getting racoon eyes with any eyewear product, move it once while tanning so there is no clear line (just like you do with swimsuit straps). Wink-Ease and Viewkeepers are ADJUSTABLE, so you can make them into a tight cone and they will only cover your eye. No more one-size-fits-all!
-- Alcohol is not recommended to clean your goggles. It will cloud the lenses. Use anti-bacterial soap that you use on your dishes. Rinse well, dry well, and store in a zip lock bag so they don't get contaminants on them from your purse, gym bag, car floor (ha ha). clean them OFTEN to avoid picking up colds, pink-eye and other diseases from touching your goggles and then putting them by your eyes.
I hope this helps!

Brenda: Thanks so much for the great info.. In another thread ( http://www.iamtan.com/viewtopic.php?topic=3142&forum=4&7 ) we have a tanner curious if her contacts (which have uv protection) are good enough for the tanning bed.... My guess is no, am I correct?

I use goggles becuz 5 minutes b4 the bed starts is not enuff time to fold the wink ease and place them on my eyes properly so they wont blow off. Not forgeting lotion which takes like 4 minutes.

It's absolutely fine to open your eyes when you have goggles or disposable eye protection on. They are see-thru on purpose--so you can set the radio, check the time, change the fans, etc. Your eyelids block less than 25% of UV light, so keeping them closed is not helping protect you! Your eyewear is 100% UV block. Towels, tshirts and cotton balls are NOT a UV block--they are not protecting your eyes.
If a goggle comes with strings, it must be worn with strings to be FDA compliant.
Dear Out, It takes under one second to put a Viewkeeper together once you get the hang of it, would you like some help? The fold goes at the top, where the most adhesive is. They will NOT blow off ever if properly put together. And you can always assemble them at the counter before you walk in your room. Any attendant is happy to wait a minute or two before hitting your timer. Just ask=-let them give you a little customer service!

I cant wait to get my free samples in the mail. Ive been wondering how these worked and never thought to buy any but now I can try 'em out free first! Thanks so much! As of right now Ive been using Peepers. I didnt realize that you could see through them on purpose (I always kept my eyes closed) though I cant see the time anyways cuz its too bright. I get a little bit of the racoon eyes with these.

yes my color vision isn't so hot either..... one salon I tan at has a color-vision test and you are supposed to be able to see numbers in the different circles...... nope. I can only see one out of the three numbers.

We print that test, chica darlin'. Glad its being used and soooooo sorry to hear your vision is not up to snuff!

not as sorry as I. that's why I get so upset when I hear about people not using eyewear. this damage is permanent, right? there's nothing that can be done to fix it, as far as I know.

You are right there, there is no drug or surgery to restore night vision and color vision. The only way to lose it is to overexpose your eyes to UV light. That can happen indoors or outdoors.

yeah I try to protect my eyes as much as I can indoors (goggles) but I should really get some sunglasses wit UV protection for outside, I really want my vision to stay as well as possible. I should start wearing to sting with my goggles all of the time too right? I think I read that.

The idea of the elastic is to keep out the ambient light zipping in the sides. With Wink-Ease and Viewkeepers, the adhesive acts as the barrier and elastic isn't needed.
UV block sunglasses are cheap--but get ones with lenses big enough to block most light. I got cool looking (and expensive) little granny glasses and they are worthless--all the light comes in from the top!

I'm using Eye Candy goggles and I love them. I don't get racoon eyes from them so that makes me really happy. They're all the way see-through and they have tons of different colors so you can match them to your personal style. They were only like $5 at my salon. The only problem with them is that they kind of start to hurt the skin around you eyes, but I've gotten pretty used to it. You just have to move them around.
