Hi everyone, first time in here. I have to admit I am very very white and would like a nice tan. In the sun I burn a little first but it does turn into a nice golden color so I am capable, but I want a nice even color. (I'm so prone to tan lines). Can anyone give me advice on how I should start? What method, how long I should tan, how frequent? Any special tips on what to use for fair skin to help accelerate the process and protect my skin?

All I know is start slow! Try going for only 5 minutes. After you see no color with that time, go up a minute or two. I'd go around 3x a week.

Ditto to what Bailey said: start on a regular bed and go only a few minutes, take a day or two off and then maybe increase a minute or so. Absolutely moisturize, and buy your self a low-level accelerator (ask your salon) and maybe one with a GOOD bronzer if you want instant gratification. Welcome to the board, by the way, and have fun!

Try JA Melaplus as a starter lotion. That seems to give beginners a really good start.

I am naturally very pale. What you need to do is start going at about 5 minutes. Go every other day. After you have gone 3 or 4 times at 5 minutes, increase it by 2 minutes. I usually upped my time every other time i went and it worked out fine, but you need to do what works for you. If you notice that you turn pink after upping your time, lower it by a minute.
You also need to get a good tanning lotion. I would suggest a basic browning lotion. I am sure your salon could suggest some good ones. Don't use a tingle lotion yet. You also need a good after tan moisturizer. These are also available at your salon. Some good ones are Hempz, Total Immersion, Angel, Fully Loaded.
Good luck! You can have a good tan. Just go SLOWLY!!

Start at 3-5 minutes in a regular bed and increase you time by 2-3 minutes each time youdon't brun, if you get pink any go back down a few minutes.

Ditto what everyone else said and resist the temptation of upping the times too soon or by large increments. Slow and steady will win the race
