I got stuck using one of the older beds today and it was horrible! The acrylic kept popping, it didn't have facials, and worst of all, when I was looking through the acrylics at the bottom of the bed there was a small dust bunny and a long piece of hair stuck to the lamps. It was extremly gross looking at it while I was lying on my stomach.

Ewwwww! That's nasty. I've tanned in one like that before. One of the reasons I changed salons. Hair. Yuck.

Yea, I would definetely make sure the bed was clean before I used it again and if it isn't complain and don't get in it until they clean it. That's just gross.

No, it can't be. That's why I'm glad at my salon you clean your own beds, this way I know that everything is cleaned. I give the bed I use a good scrubbing before I get in it.

I went to tan Wed. and the person before me left the bed dirty...I always clean it again before I get in, but that wasn't the point...some people just don't care.

southernbelle, I don't think there should be a gap. At least the beds I use don't have gaps...

Well, I've never went into a room where it looked like someone didn't clean it. But, i always clean it before I get in! ALWAYS! Today, I looked up and I saw a little feather hanging up there. LoL.

I've been able to fit my finger in there. But, it's never broken on me.. so thats good. LoL. I've only been to like 4 different places and this is the only place that I've noticed having gaps. Hmm... that should have told me something.. LoL

I've never come across or been in any tanning bed that has a gap between the bed and the acrylic.

The place I go also has dust bunnies under the acrylic. I have also noticed it caked on the wiring for the bed. As far as cleaning your own bed, they dont even leave anything there for you to clean it! Just a towel! I have also heard the acrylic making sounds while Im in there. What causes this? Now that I think about it-Why do i go here???

Do you know if they clean the beds for you. Every place I've been to that cleans the beds after people use them, leave a towel for tanners to wipe their sweat off before they clean them. Maybe that's why there isn't any cleaner there for you to clean them with. The cracking sound the acrylics make is the heat expanding. Sometimes it's scary.

Listen to this this is the most outragious, filthy.I think I would call the Health Dept...A friend of mine went to her neighbor hood lil conv.store and they have a few tanning beds so she went into the room she said it smelled bad,but after she applied all her lotion she got in the bed and felt something crawling on her foot, she said she kicked her foot a few times then she felt it on her leg ...she got up out of the bed and there were hundreds of lil flying bugs, something like a termite all over the canopy at the foot end...could you imagine..I would have died and then called the law or something thats just too gross, needless to say she has never went back there...uugghh:o

Ewwe that's really gross. I would defintely call the health dept. That's not sanitary at all. It's unbelieveable to me how many salon owners/employees don't seem to care about the cleanliness of their salon. I mean don't they realize people won't tan there if the place isn't sanitary and then they won't have a business?

I'd be curious to know where they purchased the acrylic for the unit, because I'm sure it wasn't built to fit like that.

That sounds like a scene in a horror movie for crying out loud! I would never tan there again and I would definitely tell whos's in charge about it. If that doesn't work, then I would call the health dept. I wouldn't think about doing it, I would do it ASAP.

BUGS??? YUCK!!!!!! But, on the subject of the acrylic: What if the bed that you're put in has large cracks in the acrylic. One of the salons I went to, which I no longer go to, had cracks in all the acrylic on their beds. One day, one of the bed's acrylic broke under the weight of one of their heavier clients. I'm pretty heavy myself (5' 3", 192lbs), but this lady was larger. She was TOTALLY mortified. I hope she got her money back, but I doubt it.

How embarrassing for her The is VERY bad maitanence on the salons part. Acrylics should NEVER have cracks in them and if they do they must be changed.

The salon I tan at has older bed and the acrylic sometimes pops up. I always tell them and they always go right in and fix it.

It's from the fans in the beds sucking all the crap off the floor. The dust is from all the dry skin that you non lotion users leave when the fans are blowing on ya (well, not just that). It takes maybe 30-40 minutes tops once a month to keep that under control. No excuse. That fly thing is freeking me out. Scared to use a bed.
