i work at a tanning salon so i tan about once a week.when im outside i use just normal SPF 35 on my tattoo ( its on my lower back).i was wondering what Tanning lotion brand makes a good spf? Like in a stick form? Could i possibly use one of the lip blams that cal tan or EB make on my tattoo?

Is it a new tattoo? I've had my tattoos for years and have been tanning without putting anything on them and they are fine. When I got my new one (armband) I covered it with a sweatband- After two weeks they are healed and fine. I have no fading on any of them.

My old salon had an australian gold stick, it was much bigger and fatter than a chapstic, but the same shape.

coppertone and bannana boat also makes these sticks.

My oldest one is 10 years and its still not fading - I have 12 of them and they all still look good - I keep them out of the sun and chlorine when they are healing. The only problem I had was with yellow holding up and I've had it touched up.

I just got a tattoo almost a month ago and I use a lip balm with an spf of at least 25 in it before I tan.

I heard you could put the lip balm.. or chapstick stuff on tattoos when tanning.

When I first got my tattoo, I put CalTan SPF on the tattoo. Coppertone makes a baby formula sunscreen stick that's SPF 45, but you would have to check with your salon to get an SPF approved on the beds.
Designer Skin also makes a SPF lip balm that claims it's great on tattoos as well!
At two months, you should be okay to tan without any sunscreen. Just ensure it is fully healed and not swollen anywhere.
I've been tanning with my tatoo for almost 10 years, no fade or outline "fuzz."

I've had the same problem with yellow & orange. I've had it touched up twice now & it hurts more each time! I have a firey phoenix on my back and the only colors that stand out anymore are the red & black. You can sorta see the orange & only in the right light can you see the yellow. and my artist even special ordered the best most vibrant colors available.

I know Designer Skin makes a chapstick, its called Lip Service and it says right on the tube...great for tatoos, I think it is SPF 30....and I also know you can order this bottle of lotion that is specfically for tatoos, it has an SPF 50, its called Deep Cover SPF 50 Clear Tatoo Cover!

I used zinc oxide on my tattoos for the first little while when tanning. If it works on lifeguards noses...

I got my tatoo when I was 18 and tanning all the time. Back then, I didn't know to put anything on it, and it's still fine, years later, so I don't know, maybe use the stick everyones mentioning

Andre from Ultimate said that they found that the active ingredient in SPF causes tattoos to fade more quickly...

i know people here disagree on whether or not to use products with mineral oil but that does fade tatoos. at least that was what the people told me when i got mine. call the place where you got your tatoo and they could probably tell you.

If you're totally in doubt about an spf, I'd just cover it up with a piece of gauze. I did this when I first got my tattoo, since they said not to tan for 2 weeks.

I also got a new tatoo about 2 months ago. I kept it covered while tanning until it was completely healed. Now I use cal tan's lip balm with spf 25; on their website they recommend using it on tattoos.

I have 7 tattoos, and I used to be very very careful about them, I would never go outside without spf on them, and they were pretty good, but since I have started tanning in beds I usually forget or just don't put spf on them, and I have noticed that they have faded a bit, which sucks a lot. I just bought a spf lip balm, so I pit it on my tattoos right b 4 tanning, hopefully this will help. I would not suggest going without any spf though, they will fade!

The banana boat lip balm has a spf of 30 and will help to prevent tatooo fading. A friend of mine ,who has several very bright tatoos, told me that her tatoo artist recommended using it.

I was wondering how it can be bad for it?

I got the word straight from a tattoo artist's mouth just today (my new tattoo will be in gallery shortly!). I asked when I tanned what to put on my new tattoo, and I was told to either cover it up with a towel or piece of gauze, or to use an SPF lotion.

I found a site today, www.tattooz.net that sells items specifically for tattoo care. One product, Color Guard, comes in a stick or a spray. It's targeted for tattoos, and does contain an SPF.

I don't care for Designer Skin's Lip Service. The tube I got was too hard.Maybe it was just that tube.It might have softened up if I tanned with it,though, lol!i gave it to my friend.

my tattoos (7) are all colored, and color fades easier and quicker, so black ones will l ast longer too.

I called the company that sells Deep Cover SPF 50 Clear Tattoo Cover.A tanning distributer so I figured it would be safe in the beds & for the tattoo.Wouldn't sell it to anyone but a salon owner or manager. My boss deals with 1 distributer exclusively so I won't be getting this product.

Can I please suggest something ...........If you have a professional tattoo thats healed, there is no need to use spf if you do it will fade quicker and cause an uneven tan....I have a few tattos I know this I put 1 on my gallery for you to see it is 10 years old never have I used anything but regular lotion on it. Whatever you do if you cherish your tatts dont use spf. If it's not healed then just continue with the triple antibiotic it is good for your tatt and ur tan..lol.....spf can draw the color out with repeated use...http://www.wolfsfineline.com/.......SORRY I'M JUST A TATTOO FREAK AS WELL AS A TANNING FREAK......Wolf can answer your questions if you have any more ......they are they best

at first i didnt put anything on my tattoos while tanning ( i have 3 and had them for 3 years) but i was afraid they would fade and now i put spf 30 on them. some say thats good and some say thats bad. i havent noticed any fading or anything. but if the sun fades your tats and you should wear spf on them outdoors, then why wouldnt you do the same when your in the beds? thats why i put spf on them so they wont fade as much. i thought it was a good thing?
