Yea, I lost a little over 30 pounds doing just low fat - low calorie and excercise, now its just a matter of maintenance.

I know this never happens with diets but I'm a health science major and have been taught over and over, it's only safe to lose 1-2 pounds a week...just in case anyone was wondering.

I have lost about 5 pounds but my 27 year old brother has lost 22 pounds and he doesn't know how either. Very strange.

21 pounds on Atkins since beginning of April...15 more to go to reach my goal weight...so I'm more than half way there!!! (of course summer will probably be over by the time I reach my goal...but that's OK)

Last year I lost 50 pounds in like 3 months...no clue how...I haven't gained any of it back. I guess I was just more active and I decided to eat only when I'm hungry (that usually means not eating with my family too)...but it works!

I hate to say this, but I actually have the opposite problem. I became bulimic when I was a fitness competitor five years ago so have to fight the tendency to purge. I have a very balanced, low fat diet that I use with my (very intense) physical schedule, so I have a target weight that I need to stay at. I'm 5' 2" and weight 105 pounds, and have around 10-12 % bodyfat which is quite low for a woman. I know this might sound like a problem everyone would like to have, but it has its own risks.

I hope you're better now Bonnie. I've heard it never really goes away. I have a suitemate at school who is bulimic too. She was bulimic in high school and she eats and eats and then runs to the bathroom right after. She exercises all the time too. It's really sad.

This year I lost 5 pounds by dieting. I'm going to get the pilates tapes and that will prob. help me loose more.

Thanks, Brownjen: I'm actually very healthy and happy now. Your friend is right; it's something that stalks you. The purging episodes for me have gradually lessened, partly because I've controlled the desire to binge. I think the teen years might be the hardest; now that I have a good job and (I hope) a more mature approach to my life and body, it's helped a lot. People think you've got it made when you're a hardbody, but we all have our issues! This will sound weird to people, but I began to study Buddhism and that has helped a lot too in all kinds of ways.

I've lost about 7 lbs this summer, gone from a size 10 or 11 to a size 8. I don't know how I lost it either, maybe the heat from tanning, maybe just because I've been getting out and doing stuff like working on the yard and going places like tanning.

Bonnie, I'm sure your not the only one here who has gone threw Bulimia. I went threw it too a few years ago.I know the urge your talking about. At first it's like a diet that's to good to be true. Then it becomes a habit.

People dont understand being UNDER weight is just as bad as being over weight.
I hated when people would tell me YOUR TO SKINNY...thats just as bad as telling an overweight person they are to fat...It still hurts feelings. And its just as hard for some people to put on weight as it is for some to loose it.

I really didn't need to lose any. I just had a problem.. I would eat ALL the time! Whether I was hungrey or not. So, I made a commitment (LoL) to eat just when I'm hungry. And I went from 120 to 107 just by doing that. And since I'm not eating less (or lowering calories.. I never kept count. LoL), I'm still 107, but, I don't want to lose any more.

Oh yeah, I read that if someone drinks 3 cans (or 3 something) of soda everyday.. he'd lose 15 lbs in a year if he just suddenly stopped drinking soda. Cool stuff. But, I could never ever quit drinking Coke!
And people that didn't changed their diets, but excercised regularly.. they lost 2-4 inches from their waist in a year.

Becca:
I take it you've struggled with it? For me, it took about six months of not working out and dropping out of school and seeing a therapist. You go through a series of steps to eat on a regular basis to regain weight and then gradually reintegrate to normal activity, which for me was working out. Mainly it was fighting the temptation to binge on junk foods and then throw up. Since 1999, I've been able to thrive on a very healthy, balanced low-fat diet that supports my lifestyle (I'm a fitness trainer). However, part of the psychological damage it did was I had to give up the possibility of being a professional fitness competitor. In the end, it's like any other addiction; you have to be aware that it can sneak up on you at any time. Happily, I haven't had a "relapse" in over a year!
Hope that helps, but PM me if you want some more advice!
