I know little popping with the acrylics is normal, but today the bed made this really loud pop/crash (I can't quite describe it) and I've never heard that noise before. Is this a normal noise for beds to make?

I've been in beds before that make that awful noise. I dont know why they do that sometimes... i like to tell myself that when they do it, it's kind of like the "settling" of an old crickety, creaky house. It's noises like that that can scare a person and make them freak out, but they are usually harmless (i think....). I sure hope someone else answers this post, because as you can tell i dont know why the beds make noises, and im just trying to make us both feel better about hearing them!

Those noises can be pretty disturbing at times... when i hear them i always fear the worst, like i might have gained a million pounds over night, and now the tanning beds wont support my weight anymore......

I'm glad that it's just not me using a crappy bed. Maybe I'll bring earplugs, hehe. What I can't hear can't hurt me

It is the expansion from the heat. The crackel sounds can be real loud depending on where you are lying on the bed. Totally normal.

I'm used to the heat expansion pops. Other than that, the beds in my salon are quiet. When they power off, the cooling fans make some squeak noise as they slow to a stop.

I was told that the little cracks and pops that you hear is the acrylic expanding as the bulbs warm it.

I don't hear any at the salon I'm tanning at now. At the other salon, the bed was constantly crackling and popping.

I'm glad its normal! Used to I'd get so scared when it was really loud, I thought I was going to fall through the acrylic. I haven't heard any loud ones lately. Though, I hate hearing people walk! LoL

Creaking, groaning, cracking sounds are usually normal acrylic sounds at the beginning of a tanning session, especially mornings when tanning beds haven't been used, or anytime when it is cold. Fans buzz or whine when the bearings are drying up or seizing up. Electrical shorts might be loud or not - when they happen, either one or more bulbs will go out, or the whole tanning bed will stop. This is usually not a hazard to the customer, since the tanning bed will be, or should be, grounded.
