i tanned in a stand up today for the first time... i didnt mind it except for im 6'2" so my arms werent way up in the air like most ppl. i found it quite warmer than usual, but the girl working warned me about it being warmer, so im glad i had warning, i went 6 mins... the unit is 50lamp vhr ... i usually go 8 min a bed with the same bulbs but she suggested lowering my time.. it was all good i liked it, but when i was done it took me like some time to find the exit... lol *embarrassed*

OMG!!! This exact thing happened to me yesterday but I felt silly posting it.. I am visiting my mom (out of town) and found a shop with a sundome??? Anyhow I tanned and then the lamps went off like normal, oh my gosh it was dark LOL! Anyhow, I tried to push the door open and couldn't see. I panicked so bad.. I pictured having to yell for help and them get me out of there naked hehe... I was pushing the wrong side to open the door but finally got it WHEW!

The first time I ever did a standup I was afraid I was gonna get locked inside too.

it just dawned on me....the booth I stood in had a small square "exit" sign on the door. Watch...I probably have a square white/tan mark on my back...LoL.

OMG, Once it got so hot in there and I was so disoriented I turned around and pushed and pushed thinking I was pushing on the door to get out, but it was the wall! I thought I was locked in but I just misjudged my turn!

I always try to go into the booths once a week to make sure I get the spots I might miss in a bed! But yes, sometimes I do get disoriented and have to try to find the door...how silly! lol

I tried a stand-up for the first time on Wednesday and found out how warm they can get. I liked how it got the "missed" spots from the beds, though. It's funny how you mention the exit -- I'm glad I wasn't the only one -- I remember wondering if all the lights would go out and I wouldn't be able to find the door

It got too hot, though, so I got out about a minute before the time was up. We'll see what happens next time and if I get lost in there.

I haven't used a stand-up recently. But, I've got a question about stand-ups (or booths, for any old-timers out there).... Has anyone ever used one that operates like this: There is a timer on an outside wall which you (or the salon personnel) can set. You go into a dressing room and undress and lotion up. When you open the door to the tanning area, it automatically turns on AND the door locks behind you. You cannot get out until the timer goes off. I went in a booth like this in a salon the late 80's or early 90's (I'm aging myself here, aren't I?). It was sooo bad that I didn't tan again until just recently....say, the last two months or so. I got trapped in the darn thing, AND I got ROYALLY FRIED!!!! Does anyone have an opinion on this? Would this be likely to happen now? BTW, the salon that had this setup is out of business.

Oh, and now I only use beds. I'm totally SCARED of anything that says "STAND UP" or "BOOTH". LOL!!!!!

There should be a red button that turns the bed off! If not, the owners better get one!

This was YEARS ago, and there didn't appear to be that sort of thing in it. That salon is out of business, thank God. You know, bad experiences breed dislike!!!

Anyway, how many minutes should I get in a stand-up for? I've been using the regular bed for 20 mins and the turbo with facial for 16 mins. What do you think?

That sounds like the stand-up booth from a horror film (if someone made one about tanning of course!). You could probably do 12-15 in the booth depending on the model; 9 or 10 for a stronger one.

^^^I haven't seen it, but someone told me that in "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer", someone gets trapped in a tanning bed and dies, lol.

I have this somewhat claustrophobia thing. Nothing serious, but bad enough that I freak out at the end of the session because it's dark and I convince myself I'm trapped, because one of the doors to the booth I use is a little jammed, so it sticks a little, and so I always freak out. Next time, I'm going to try the other stand-up.
