View Full Version : terrible tanning bed head rests

I just had to complain about those clear acrylic head rests that some beds have. I HATE those things! They are so uncomfortable and never stay in place. Everytime I use a bed with one it ends up sliding out from under my head, so I don't use them anymore. The salon I go to has nice thick pillow ones with a curve to fit your head. But those plastic one's drive me crazy!

The new bed I just started going in ( Sundash Competition) has an uncomfortable headrest, but I get alot better tan than in the other bed I was going in that had a comfortable one so I guess I will suffer

Yep, that's the same bed that has it! I also hate when the darn tops of the beds won't stay where you put them and keep falling all the way down. I just don't like them too close to my nose!

i never use any headrest things. i've seen too many people with pillow lines on the back of their necks so i stopped using mine (and sometimes u get a neckline under your chin) so mine goes on the floor

I dont like the little arcylic ones either , I stoped using them , because they make my neck hurt more then if I don't use them.

The salon I go to used to have ONLY the cushiony headrests but now they have some rooms with the clear acrylic ones which I do not like...nor do I use for pretty much the same reasons stated here!!

OMG, I better check the back of my neck! I usually slide the pillow up so I might not.

I put just the edge of the pillow under my head and tip my chin towards the ceiling

I always use the pillow.... it hurts to have your head against the acrylic.

My salon has foam cushions that are shaped. I make an effort to slide the cushion up to avoid having a tan line on the back of me neck.

Man I must be odd because I actually prefer the hard ones, it had a circle just for youe head to fit in, is tilted at just the right angel at to tilt your head back to get your neck, I do agree that it moves around more, but much more sanitary I think. At one salon I go to they have the regular tanning pillow and the thing has a crack all down the middle so there is no way to get it completely clean, imagine someone with lice tanning right before you.

i'd probably tell them that that is definately not sanitary and that they should replace it.

Same. Or I just ditch them entirely. I like the foam ones though, particularly when I feel a nap coming on.
I ditch the pillows too. I use a turbie towel to wrap my hair in when I can and that is enough cushioning for me.

I totally love the clear acrylic ones. They are super comfortable and way sanitary. I would never want to use pillows again

We use the rectangular foam pillows. And Texas law says "no cracks", which I certainly agree with. Never know what might be hiding in there, lol.

I don't use the pillows at all when I tan, this way I have no problems tanning my neck. Sometimes, I do use a rolled up towel if the bed is too uncomfortable to lay on without a pillow.

I must not have thought about the whole pillow thing. I know the hard ones do hurt my head sometimes. I guess from now on I might just as well NOT use them!

I cover the pillows with my towel
