I've noticed since tanning more often that my forehead is especially breaking out. Has anyone else had this problem? Could it be leaving on lotions? Curious...

Actually, I've always thought that tanning does just the opposite and clears up your skin. Hmmm....good question!

oh I had that problem on my checks, I think it was all the supper rich tanning lotion. (I had been using it as a moisturizer too) I quit putting tanning lotion on my face except for right before my tan, and then asap wash it off. (I use Phisoderm *sp* acne fighting formula)

I had this prob. when I used body tanning lotion on my face. Try a hypoallergenic tanning lotion like Saving Face. Right after you get out of the bed, wipe your face with one of those Clean & Clear wipes that remove make-up so that the sweat doesn't soak into your pores and block them.

My forehead and decollete break out sometimes too! I use Matahari DST all over - I think I'm going to try Lustrous or another facial tanner soon. I wonder if it's all the Matahari products though... I'm a big fan.

I love Matahari products but they are a bit heavy-handed with the fragrance, are you typically sensitive?

Yeah, I'm a Cetaphil cleanser and Aveeno moisturizer girl! I love the smell of Matahari but I think you're absolutely right, I'll keep away from it for the same reason I keep away from Lancome - too perfumey for my face!

Saving face would be a good choice. Also washing your face after tanning could also help. Also try usuing an oil free moisturizer for your face.

Yeah, i'll try Saving Face this week. I never wash my face right after I tan because I don't want to wash the bronzers off. It's time for something new...

I think I need to try a lotion meant for the face. If I don't use one my skin clears up...if I use just a regular lotion then my forehead starts to break out a little bit. I have an oily t-zone and I don't think the lotion helps things any.

Yes a tanning treatment which is specifically designed for the face should always be used for facial tanning...
Lotions that are used on the body, should not be used on the facial skin...

My forehead used to never break out but around Jan. it really started to get bad. In March, I went to the dermatologist and she put me on a regimen specifically for my forehead(cuz I dont breakout too bad any other places). Now my forehead is completely clear. It rarely breaks out anymore, and when they do the breakouts are minimal. Ive also noticed that my forhead isnt the oiliest thing in the world anymore.

I'm sorry, this is not a personal attack, but it annoys me when people give opinions like they were scientific fact...I have looked at facial tanning lotions...and they DO NOT have any different or special ingredients that make them any different or better than regular tanning lotion...some may have extra moisturizers (and they don't tan your face any better), but that would not be beneficial if you are prone to break-outs...IMHO, tanning lotions marketed for the face are just marketing ploys...stick with your regular lotion and just wash your face after tanning and apply an oil-free moisturizer.

Below is great advice on Facial Lotion from a PROFESSIONAL SKIN CARE EXPERT (HIGHLY TRAINED).....

"Our facial tissue is different than the rest of our body. Included in the face is the neck and chest. Be kind to these areas. Using a product designed just for the face will ensure nice skin in the years to come.
The good thing about most lotions designed "just for the face" is that you can wear the product as your moisturizer..no need to wash it off after tanning session is over. Remember moist skin tans better and moist skin stays looking better rather than dehydrated skin.
The face is the first thing to get etchings..(fine lines) care for your skin and it will look it's best with that tan.
The worse look in my opinion is dull, dry, lined skin that is tanned it looks a sight and turns people off to tanning when they are in their 30s and above.
Look good, Feel GREAT.....
Care for your skin..

But do Remember NEVER use anything in your eye area unless it is made for the eye"

.hmmm, could it possibly be this PROFESSIONAL SKIN CARE EXPERT (HIGHLY TRAINED)..is someone who works someplace that sells these products...I mean we have to take your word for it that this person is a a PROFESSIONAL SKIN CARE EXPERT (HIGHLY TRAINED)...sorry, but for me to believe this I need SPECIFIC info like what EXACTLY is in the facial lotions that is different/better for your face...too many "experts" on this site passing out misinformation...give me FACTS...that's all I ask.

Highly Trained = "a licensed Aesthetician and a Board Certified Paramedical"

Fine...but when "experts" state something as fact, without providing any specifics, I am going to be skeptical...if they know something is so, then they should know WHY it is so, and be able to give those reasons...otherwise, it's just another opinion.

If I go to a doctor, and he tells me I have a certain illness, I am not going to just take his word for it, I don't care how many years of education and experience he has, he still needs to explain to me how he came to that conclusion and give me specific reasons for his diagnosis.

Don't give me expert opinions, give me the facts![ This Message was edited by: Hyperion on 2003-06-26 13:53 ]

...and believe it or not, I am not trying to pick a fight or be difficult. I truly am interested in knowing what there is in facial tanning lotions that make them better for your face...I mean specifically and exactly why they are different and/or better...it's just the skeptic in me can't just take someone's word for it without some info to back up their opinion.

love, peace, and happy tanning to all!!!

I'm not sure, but to me it seems like they would leave stuff out of lotion for faces. I don't know exactly what is in reg. body lotion that can bother facial skin, but they probably leave it out. I know I don't put much lotion on my face unless it's oil free. but I have oily skin and the extra oil that's in some lotion can suffocate my face & cause breakouts
