View Full Version : Touring Tanning Salons?

About half a year ago when I was thinking about starting to tan, I went around to several of the salons. When I would ask for a tour, the staff would look at me like I was crazy and/or trying to rob them. One girl even asked me if I worked for a television station and was doing a report (I really don't know where that came from). Is it that odd to want to see the place that you are going to be tanning at before you sign up or use one of the beds?

Ive done the same thing. My salon actually gives you a tour when you come in, they explain each level of beds...ect.
I went a few towns away 2 months ago to a new place to check it out, i asked if they could show me around abd they looked at me like i was nuts! I asked her if her facial beds has the HP facial lamps or the small sphagetti facials she said "huh??" I had to bend over and look at the bed and explain that those are spaghetti facials... she had no clue those small lamps were even in between. needless to say I never went back.

The only salon in town that gave me a tour is the one I'm tanning at now. The other salon's were just like "which package do want?" Didn't offer to show me the beds or anything.

Every one I have visited wanted to show me their beds. They must have had something to hide!

I've toured the salons ive tanned at.... I think it's common courtesy to show a potential client around the salon, and point out what your salon has to offer. I guess if a salon i went to didnt do that i would think something wierd was going on. I always make point of seeing what beds they offer, and asking lots and lots of questions. That way i can figure out for myself how knoweledgable and friendly they are!

I agree with ya 100%. And with all we know about beds, ect ..... a tour is the only way to go LOL

That's how i feel too.... if they dont want to give me a tour, or they act upset because im asking a million questions then i know it's going to be a place im not happy with.

I always want to check a place out first.... and I like to try different salons in the area just for a session to see what other places are like.

Im a big fan of checking out all the salons in an area, too! It's kind of along the same lines as me wanting to sample all the lotions that are out there! Im always afraid i'll miss something great if i dont try something new all the time.

I agree. I like to sample different salons too. I haven't really found a salon I'm happy with at school so I switch around a lot. The best salon I've been to so far is back home. I guess there's no place like home.

I like to be able to tour the salon and check things out also, the one I go to now showed me around explained the beds and everything to me. I think if you cant't get a tour and a free tan, they may have something to hide.

I think if customers could potentially be spending hundreds of dollars on services and products, the least a salon can do is offer an informative tour. But there's nothing more annoying than an uneducated person who can't answer questions about facial lamps, etc. I can understand if I don't get a free tan though. I mean, I don't get a free meal just because it's the first time I ate at a cool restaurant.

I must be bold because I go in expecting and asking to see the beds and what they have to offer, if they are unwilling to provide that customer service I wouldn't tan there.

I agree with Strnghrt on this one.... i think that tours should be a given, and that if a salon isnt willing to provide a tour of the facilities it goes to show that they may not have their customers as the #1 priority. I would really be skeptical if a salon wouldnt provide a tour if i requested one. If a salon flat out refused to give a tour to me, or acted like i was making unreasonable demands i would definatly not tan at that particular salon!

I was offered a tour and a free tan the moment I stepped in my current salon just over 2 years ago. I don't know if they still show people around but I agree with the lot of you, they should show potential customers around the salon and point out the different beds. If I come across any salon employees that can't answer questions like the type of facial tanner used in their beds, I will do a quick 180 and vacate premisis.

Starryeyes (or anybody else), if the salon workers look at you like you're nuts if you ask them for a quick show-around, they aren't worthy of your business. Find another salon. And you are not nuts. That was a perfectly legitimate question

I'm glad I'm not the only person who wants to be shown around! The salon I'm at now was the only place where the desk person didn't think a thing about showing me around. What really gets me though, is when some of my friends want to tan, so they call around for prices and then go to the cheapest place and sign-up without even looking around. They get stuck with crappy beds, and then they wonder why..

The salon I just left did not show me around until they ran my credit card...If they had, I would not have been a client. OLD beds, Mirrors with scratches in the back side of them (if you see me on the internet...It is not my fault, lol)

We always show new customers around our salon. I wish more people would check out salons before they bought packages, that way they wouldn't waste money if they didn't like it.

I wouldn't do business with a place that didn't show me what equipment was available. Touring the place lets you get a feel for how they keep the cleanliness and guage traffic. If no one is coming in and the place looks like a dive, you might want to hit the road. Since they asked you if you were a reporter doing a story, my guess is they got pinched for something and you reminded them of it in some way. I would keep looking for another salon if I were you. Nothing strikes me as spectacular about the place you mentioned.

I wont even get a session unless they show me around .....My best friend hates going to a new salon with me cause I ask them to show me around,if the rooms aren't clean or beds aren't good or whatever I won't tan there!

Most places I've gone to check out offered to show me the beds and explained them there was only one place that acted weird when I asked to see the bed.

We always give a tour of the ENTIRE salon. Including the bathroom and laundry room. We pride ourselves on being the cleanest salon in the area, and we have nothing to hide!

This salon I am at now....took me on a tour of the whole place asked all kinds of questions about my tanning habits and skin care and answered all my questions, just provided tons of info on the beds, the kinds of bulbs...and then went on to explain the different lotions....and then offered up a free tan and free lotion to try the place out......was very impressed with the place.....

i had been in several salons before i found this one that actually acted annoyed to even deal with me...i quickly left....and this was during the day when it was really slooooooow....dorks cut their own throats when they do that.

Yeah I asked a girl at the place I go to what their super bed was (cuz u know how it is.. it's not a *true* superbed) and she seemed kind of shocked that I asked.. I feel kind of weird about asking now.. cuz she's probably wondering what a 16 year old would know about tanning beds lol
