I can't seem to get my arms and legs as tan as my tummy! Any advice on doing this? Will turning help? or lotions? help help!

Lotion will help FOR SURE. If you're not currently tanning with a professional tanning lotion, do so!

How long have you been building? The stomach tends to tan faster but it eventually all evens out.

Go into the bigger beds.
Hi Clique, I disagree with Tan Larue. Lotions will not help "for sure", and you DO NOT need "professional tanning lotions"....most of these are complete ripoffs in terms of price. You can use a basic, inexpensive moisturizing lotion and get the same results. And as fas as bronzer, and tingles, and all that stuff, save your money, and just get a tan the old fashioned way- slow and steady (Tamar has the right idea)- and you'll get the tan you want.

Tamar is right but PJ is wrong. Tingles will definately help your tan, especially in areas you are having troubles tanning. You get what you pay for. Cheap stuff is always bad, and will not always use real vitamins in their lotions.
There is no scientific evidence tingles help you tan...what you get from using tingles is an increase in blood flow to the skin due to the dilating effects of the chemicals in the "tingle" lotions. Your skin immediately turns redder because of this, but this is not a tan...if this is what he is looking for then fine, but if he wants a real tan he must do it as Tamar and I suggest.

I can vouch for tingles helping...the underside of my arms weren't as dark as the tops and I used a tingle this morning and it made a differance compared to my reg. lotion.

Where did this information come from? It is a fact that NOT using lotions while tanning damages your skin and also, considering that DRY skin repels UV light, you are wasting the first few minutes of your tanning session. As far most of the lotions being "complete ripoffs," I say you are only giving your opinion and not speaking in realistic terms. If you have studied the tanning process at all you should already know this, but I will assume that you are new to the tanning industry and have not done your homework. Perhaps you are notconcerned with the QUALITY of certain tanning products, but I know from experience that most consumers are-at least those who have been PROPERLY EDUCATED![ This Message was edited by: Redhead47 on 2003-05-08 17:25 ]

The evidence is in the second step of our skin's natural tanning process, which is to OXIDIZE the produced pigment. How is this accomplished? Through increased Oxygen of course. Since tingle products increase Oxygen flow, of course they will speed up the tanning process.

Like I said, some people like the results they get while using nicotinates (the active ingredient in "tingle" lotions), because it does change the color of the skin temporarily. But to call this a tan is inaccurate.

Look, it is simple really- there are many methods and techniques that work-try many and find the one which works the best for YOU! My advice would be to alternate step 1 and 2 products and of course to ALWAYS use a step 3. If you really want FAST and DARK results on your arms, try CAL TAN's DARK SEXY LEGS! My clients use it on their legs AND arms and love it!

How is this "inaccurate?" This "temporary" change in color that you refer to-is it red? If so this is the natural reaction to the increase blood flow and NOT a tan, of course. The fact is however, if you have an understanding of the tanning process, that when additional Oxygen is introduced into the skin, the produced pigment is bronzed via oxygenation. Once again, if you have an understanding of the tanning process, you will know that more Oxygen=darker, faster oxygenation = darker tan! What is "inaccurate" about this equation?

Maybe you have the ingredients in tingle or hot action products (and there are many) confused with a bronzer?
No I am not confused, I know what a "bronzer" is...
The reality is that any claims that tingles help you tan better are hypothesis as of yet. That is, there is no scientific substantiation that these products will increase Melanogenesis and subsequent Melanin deposition. Unless you know of any scientific studies no one else knows about???

I'll let you know when I post the findings of my study. Thanks for clearing that up for everyone else, though. I still say that the results achieved from using a tingle product (or non tingle product for that matter)far surpass the results achieved from NOT using a lotion at all. Do you need proof of that as well?

On that point you're right...it's essential to use lotion when tanning (I never said otherwise), in order to keep the skin properly hydrated and moisturized. On that there is no debate.
PJ
p.s. your assumption that I am "new to the industry" is incorrect (not to mention arrogant). And you talk about being "properly educated" about the tanning process, but nothing you have written here indicates anything but basic knowledge about the subject (which could be derived by anyone from simple internet search). Case in point, you wrote "Oxygen=darker, faster oxygenation = darker tan" - it's absurd to make such a statement without substantiation.
