AIRBRUSH TANNING

A new salon in my neighborhood just opened up with a booth. I haven't tried it, but a friend of mine has and it lasted about a week for her. It looked real good too!

no airbrush is different. it is actually airbrushed onto you.
mystic you go in and are by yourself but airbrushing there is a person doing the airbrushing.

Yes...Airbrush tanning is different than the Mystic Tan...

Some people will like this, but others might not, because a person does the spraying...so, people may feel a bit uncomfortable...

One of the tanning salons in my town just started doing airbrushing tan. A girl came into the place I work a couple days after she got it done, she looked TERRIBLE. She was so upset, and she couldnt get the tan to come off. Everyone I have seen that has gotten it done, looked absolutly terrible.

Well, whoever is spraying down there in Tennessee needs to be trained by the sounds of it. Using good equipment, it is dfficult for the trained person to make someone look bad, but so easy to make them look good. And of course she couldn't get it to come off...tans don't just 'come off', they fade as natural exfoliation takes place.

Just food for thought....over the last 5 years, we have had great sucess in such diverse markets as South Africa, Ireland, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Iceland, as well as all over Europe, but we include one-on-one training and top-shelf equipment and lotions with all of our professional kits. Perhaps that's the difference?

Does the airbrushed tanning last any longer than the mystic? I'm trying to figure out what the difference is between them-the only thing I can get thus far is that one is done by a machine and one is done by a person. Can someone clarify?

Boob.....you basically have it. The booths can apply a tan very quickly and have a privacy factor that is of course not present with airbrush applied lotion. However, certain areas of the body require less lotion than others for the tan to look natural, and this is where airbrushing excels. Lotion can be applied very precisely with an airbrush, which is the only way to apply partial treatments, i.e., just face/neck/chest or just legs etc. There is of course more to it, this is just a brief overview. If you want the tan to last longer, proper exfoliation before and moisturizing after is essential.....The other big difference between the systems is the cost.....booths are anywhere from $35-55,000, whereas a professional (salon) airbrush setup is around $900-1300. We have a 'home kit' coming out, probably for around $500.

That's the only issue with airbrush really....but there's no way around it. Of course, everyone is different...most tan topless, some nekkid. One of the reasons for the 'home kit' was so that those who would prefer to be undressed only in front of their 'significant other' or a close friend could still get the benefits of airbrush.

We do the airbrushing at the salon I work at.They are supposed to wear swimwear but I've done clients in their underwear.Alot of the solutions go on clear which makes it hard to tell if the client's color is even or if you missed any places.The color then develops after 10-12 hours.A sugar scrub or a pumice stone can help to tone down any color irregularity.

If i was going for a tan like that, I'd go for like Mystic or something. Just because I won't be half nakey around someone I don't know being that close to my body.. and 2nd, you wouldn't have to worry about being uneven.

It really is a lot better than Mystic Tan. Getting sprayed by a person at least assures you that you won't get streaked, and if you do the place that I go will wipe off the streak and re do whatever they messed up on. It looks almost perfect where I go to get it done.

We have been using airbrush now for about 3 months and have had quite a bit of feedback regarding both this way and the "booth" myst tan. It seems that the booth spray on tans are lasting on an average of about 5 days while our airbrush is getting about an average of 9 days. I think this is directly related to how much coverage each process puts on. Also, a good airbrush technician is able to brush it on in a much more "natural" look.

That's interesting DrivR, I'd like to know what airbrush you are using since I'd like to incorporate it in with my spray tan for[touch ups] when the face and neck area fade ... that area always goes first. I tried a couple of those airbrush tannings and the first one showered off the next day (after 14 hours), the second lasted 2-3 days and the third, she refused to do my hands and feet stating, "most people don't tan their hands and feet anyhow" okay ... so why do I see tanned hands and feet everywhere? And that one lasted about 2-3 days. I bought a spray booth and absolutely love it ... the MagicTan spray booth. On some it lasts 4-6 days and on others they claim it lasted 8-10 days. I've never known any sunless tanner to last longer than 5-7 ... so it makes me wonder, how often does one shower? Please let me know the name of your airbrush, curious minds want to know. Yeah I cant fuss with sunless tanning, i need to bake. and I dont want to be worried about going to the pool and the chlorine stripping off my tan.

Hiya, With what you're telling me about the face and neck area, I have heard the same by tanners who have used the booth. We have techniques that actually make this area last the full time (8-11 days) of the airbrush tan. We have also sprayed people that have spent the next 8 days on a cruise, going in the pools, the beaches, jacuzzis, etc for the whole trip and still had their tan airbrush tan last at least 8 days. Here in Florida, we get alot of tanners who use clorinated pools, and still the tan lasts at least 8 days. The one area that is troublesome to us is the inside of the elbow, where a lot of wear and tear takes place. I have steady customers that come back every week for another airbrush and this is where we see the most wear. As for the spray I use, it is manufactured by Biddiscombe. While it is more expensive then alot of the rest, I have found thru my testing that nothing I have used so far gives a more natural looking and long lasting tan as this solution. As for how often people shower, I really don't understand what you're trying to convey with that statement.....as we airbrushed over 125 people so far.

Hi Drvr, I do apologize for being misunderstood. I was trying to be funny since not being able to find a self tanning solution lasting any longer than 5-7 days [on me] ...although, indicating, I've had several say they actually lasted longer but I questioned how many times they may have showered. Thank you for the name of your airbrush system, as I am going to look into this for touch ups. The system I have in place is perfect for my customers and works very well, however I think the airbrush would be an added touch for those requiring a darker look to their face and neck area. Thanks again for your info!

Hi All.. this is my first time posting here. I have just started my airbrush tanning salon. Will be having a grand opening soon. I researched this extensively before going into this business. First, the spray on booths- as someone stated earlier are very expensive. Knew I couldn't get financing for this...so I went for airbrush tanning. The "folks" I have sprayed(airbrushed while training" have been very pleased. You can control the amount of spray that you apply, you can make the person darker if they like all within the price that you charge, you can reapply to a certain area if it streaks. I think that this new process of Air Brush Tanning will be around for quite a while.

Hi everybody, Im new to this forum but having been a independent distributor of airbrush tanning systems i can tell you there every bit a good as booths and a LOT more personable. You go into a booth and it just starts spraying across your face, everywhere it doesnt know how tall you are how much you weigh ect. A person with an airbrush can give you that personal touch...a little more on the legs and face ...a little less on the feet and knees ect. Right now the sunless tan is the hottest thing out there,a lot of people buy them for there own personal use or for tanning partys..snd of course there popping up at salons everywhere

Yeah, probably if you use a brillo pad to scrub the darker parts.

As far as the "fading question", it fades just like a regular tan does. Also, people that spray themselves at home, and don't go to a airbrush tanning counsultant, usually have to learn to spray themselves evenly just like a person who uses tan out of a bottle. SO, far in the little town where I live, people are loving it. Can't wait to get into my new shop. Right now am doing mobile service in their homes.
