I heard so much talk about the booth beds and uva bulbs, I had to give it a try. I've been looking for non tingle and non bronzer lotion. I went with absolute dark by SHO 9000. I wanted to see if the stand up bed really made a difference so I used the basic lotion. It's been about 35 minutes now and I see very little pinkness.I used a sticker and I can see it a little. I hear you can build up your melatoin using these beds. The manager wasn't in so the girl there couldn't tell me anything about the bed. On the outside door it said VHR and I think it had 52 bulbs. somewhere close to that. I tried to count them. She did say the bulbs were 98% UVA. I stayed in there 6 minutes and 10 minutes is the maxium. I'm not a dark person so I'm surprised I don't see much results. Maybe by today I will see the whole effect. It was $1.00 a minute so if it can boost my tan I will do it once a month. I have my on bed at home it's small, so I thought using the booth might help.

I use a booth to even out my color. Sometimes I see a little difference immediately, and sometimes it takes a little while. It depends on which booth I use. I usually don't see a major difference in color, but it does help even out my sides and under my arms.

Keep in mind, I'm dark. lol Give it another try and see what you think. If you don't see a difference, I agree, keep your money. I would.

The reason I went is because I was told the bulbs in the booth were 98% UVA and it would build up my melatoin and my home bed having UVB lamps would make me darker. Do you think that's true?

Camaro:

Give it overnight; you'll probably see a difference with time. If not, Sunbunny's right; it might not be for you!

I had on a sticker and today I can bearly make it out. It was O.K. but for $1.00 a minute. I'll stick with my home bed!

well remember that u won't see dramatic results with a bed like tht until you do it for the full time. if they have mostly uva bulbs then that means you should NOT burn in the booth. but then i wouldnt chance that til you speak with the owner

"and it would build up my melatoin"- this does not sound right...

The reason why people like beds/booths with high UVA bulbs is because the higher UVA has more of a bronzing effect on the skin...

moving this into ask the PROS....for more information...

First of all, your body stays "in the process" of tanning for up to 24 - 48 hours, so 35 minutes after your session is not the time to judge results. And, a higher percentage of uva will take longer, but is the smarter way to go. Higher uvb tends to thicken the skin in self defense.

I have never found a stand up bed that did anything for me, and I tried a couple before I was dark.

I use the standup beds mainly because i dont get awkward dots on my shoulders or butt. also, it seems cleaner to me.

First off you've been given incorrect info. UVB brings up the melanin, NOT UVA. UVB are your typical base beds the more of an upgrade the less uvb and the more uva. Understand? I wouldn't recommend that anyone use primarily an upgrade bed. I am not a salon owner or a professional but I have learned a lot in the last few months about tanning, lotions, beds, and lamps. If you want to boost your color tan in a base bed then tan in an upgrade bed once a week or so. For me I found in the upgrade beds I didn't get a lot of color difference as in darker but my tan looked deeper. I don't know any other way to explain it, wish I was better with words, I might be published then.

Something you might try that has worked for me in the past: Try a session in a good "standup" (I used the 60-lamp UltraSun PowerTower 12000) then within 48 hours use a high pressure bed (Mine was the UltraSun Turbo 22000). The first session seems to "prep" the skin for the great tanning rays from the high pressure bed. Not being a long-time tanner, I'm not sure this would work for everyone, and you should certainly check with the tanning professional at your salon but it has given me some really good results.

Jlahr, actually at the salon I go to they recommend something like that, a few times in a base bed then once in an upgrade then back to base beds.
