Do you prefer to tan at a large salon with a lot of units? or a smaller one? or does it matter to you?

To me it does not really matter as long as the service and training is there and the beds are good ones.

i like the larger salons cause i know i can just pop in anytime and get in a bed within 5 mins...my salon is fairly big with 14 beds and 2 mystic yet they still have that small salon feeling...

Small one is best in my opinion, more personable...

I like salons to know their market...ie: enough beds for the customers. Big cities have to have more beds than small cities. I don’t like having to wait for a bed, especially when I made an appointment! And I don’t really like making appointments anyways, but when I do make an appointment I like being able to pick the time, instead of the leftover times nobody else wants to tan in.

yeah my salon that i tan at has a no appointment system so they have to have a good amount of beds to accomidate customers during high volume, and during low volume they just turn 1/2 the beds off, like one time i came in and all the beds that were in operation were being used so i waited 5 mins for them to power up a couple more and i got in right after that, the only downside is the bed was freezing..

I generally prefer larger ones because they usually have more bed choices. My main criteria is a variety of beds (and I hate the very small ones), with the bulbs changed frequently. As long as I get good color, I'm happy.

My salon is large and with large salons, they have more beds to choose from, most of the time, and there is less waiting on a certain bed. So, you can say that I prefer large salons.
But large or small, it has to be a well run place with a helpful staff and the bulbs in the beds nice and fresh. And cleanliness too...

My salon is medium-large and I like it that way. I still have to wait for beds since I use the most popular kind, but it's not bad enough where I have to book an appointment.

my salon has 13 beds and one sun spritz.

My salon is small. 5 base beds and a standup. I like it though. Everyone is very friendly and it is always very clean.

In the experience I had, in my town the smaller salons have been nicer, gave a lot more personal attention. Back home in Toledo, I found this new bigger one that's a franchise, and it's great too. Guess it all just depends on service and knowledge of tanning to impress me.

I prefer the large salons because there never is a wait (with the exception of prom time) and there are more choices of beds.

The salon I tan at has 14 beds total. I haven't had a problem getting an appointment or just walking in. I like the size. It's personable. Of course, the town's not really large, and there are somewhere around 6 other places with beds. But none of the other's have the same feel to them as this one does.

The salon i used to frequent was on the small-ish side. It was so homey and small-town feeling. I loved the attention and service i recieved from the owner there. I do think large salons have their pro's too, though. Not having to wait on a bed is a big draw, and they seem to have more bed selection, also.

I had only ever been to a few of the local Hair Salons that had 1 or 2 beds (Ilive in the country) and I was comfortable knowing the people, but I checked out Beach Bum Tanning Salon and the Employees are very knowledgeable, the equipment all new and very clean - They have 31 beds so there is no waiting- Just overall much more professional. The little salons up here just seem to throw a tanning bed in a back room and really don't know anything about them if you ask questions.

ladyboss, it sounds like you are happy with your new, 'deluxe' size tanning salon in comparison to where you used to tan at. The difference between salons can be amazing! I hope that you enjoy the salon you are visiting now, and keep us posted!

Well I tanned at a small hick town salan. They started with 3 beds and then was a big deal when they finally got 7 total. They owner did not tell me at all how long to tan. I managed to figure it out on my own without burning. She even let a lady take her 3 yr old child in the room with her to tan. She said "Well it is her child, not mine". I know all small salons are not bad, but this one was terrible.

Now I am at a large salan. They have 9 locations across SE Alabama and NW Florida. They main one I go to has 20 something beds and a Matrix, spray booth. They staff are all very knowledgeble. I started with them last week and they were very adament about me only staying in the bed for 15 minutes although I had tanned for a couple of months at 20 minutes at other salons. They had to be sure I would not burn. It was a little irritating, but I was glad that they actually cared enough to regulate my time. It is a nice surprise.

I would preffer to go somewhere with more beds then I could just stop in there and tan when I want. Plus they would prob have better deals on memberships and lotions since they would get more business. My place now only has 3 tanning units and I have to make sure to make a tanning apointment a day ahead since they do fill up quickly.

i go to a medium/large salon. it has 1 mega bed, 3 HPs, 1 face tanner, 1 leg tanner, and 10 regular beds
it is also cheap, $19 a month unlimited!! and the staff is super knowledgeable. she recommended a lotion based on my skin and it works phenominally!! the lotion is tattoo hot

The salon that I work at has 30 beds at it, at different tanning levels, and one mystic. There is hardly ever a wait and we change our bulbs often. The owners also have a smaller salon with only 10 beds there. I have also worked there as well. I have never heard any complaints from the tanners but I do know that at smaller salons is does feel more personal with the employee. It just depends on your comfort level.

I agree smaller salons make me feel more comfortable, the employees seem to have the time to get to know you better.

Yeah, I like my salon, she's a medium salon I guess, she's got 6 beds and 1 booth, so it's nice to have choices and a rotation of beds and a booth. I also feel very comfortable at me salon because she's so personable and informative, and she really made me feel comfortable when I decided to start tanning

I really like my big salon. I like that I don't have to wait and that I have a large variety of beds to use. And I'm lucky that the same girls are working so they know me and it still feels personal.

The girls at the "Big Salon" always remembered me cause I was the one traveling from Pa. to NJ to go tanning

I like the salon I work at. I'd say it's about medium in size. You get to know the regular clients by name and it's nice to be able to hold a little conversation with someone while you work. The other girls that work here are real nice so it's a real pleasant environment to work in.

I like the smaller more intimate settings.....and I like that people greet me by name...and get to know you and your lotion preferences, and make good suggestions based on that knowledge...ya I am all for the service side....i great bed is ok...but put it with customer service and you can not go wrong

I go to 3 different ones. The main one I go to only has 2 beds. I never have to wait b/c I make appointments. The other one I go to every few weeks or so for maybe one or two sessions has 4 beds. No wait here either. The other salon I go to rarely, it has 20 beds.

I have been to quite a few different salons over the past several years and I have always loved the smaller, intimate ones. The staff is so helpful, friendly, and it makes me feel more comfortable. I don't mind waiting if it means better service. Right now the closest place is a larger chain salon and so far I'm not pleased at all.

The original salon I went to all the time (Tropical Tann) was a bigger salon - I think it might've been a chain. It had like 20 something beds, a mystic 2 or 3 booths (I don't know what they were called) and a Sun Terrace II. The one I go to now (A Sun City) is A LOT smaller compared to that, it has like 8 beds, I think 3 are base beds, 3 are the level two beds and 2 are the level 3 beds.
I've never had to wait at either salon, maybe I just hit the smaller one at the right time?? I'm really not sure what I like better I'm still getting used to the new salon but I like how the smaller ones tend to decorate, haha. The bigger salon just looked so industrial but the smaller one is all dark and tropical, it's fun. I just wish they'd get a water cooler

There is only one Tanning Salon and she has 3 beds, so that would be considered the big salon in my local area - The rest are beauty salons with just 1 or 2 base beds.
My salon owner has been talking about expanding and adding a stand-up, but who knows when that will happen so I'm still tanning at the chain salon when I travel, which is tonight

Wow I've had the opposite experience. I used to tan at Darque Tan, it's a huge chain with lots of beds, but it was so popular that I was guaranteed a wait regardless what time I went in. With a medium sized salon, I never have to wait and they still have a nice selection of beds.

I love my little salon, it has only 3 beds and is a hair and nails shop too, but I only go there to tan. And the smaller shops usually have more reasonable prices.
