try the chamomile color shampoo and conditioner by Aveda they are great Also Ive used color enhansing shampoo & conditioner by nick chavez these come in like 8 colors depending on your color need they help in brassiness in blondes . I don use it anymore because i get low lites instead of the blonder hi lights but my mom uses it 1-2 times a week and it keeps her hair looking fresh you can read about the nick chavez at qvc . com

Condition!!! also try a 2 in 1 product made specially for color treated hair, this maintains the color and also keeps hair from getting straw- like

no u aren't crazy lol my hair totally gets lighter. i just bought some of the sheer blonde life preserver and i got a couple hair masks to try to keep my hair nice and soft. I've been using dove's shampoo and conditioner and omg my hair has been soooooooooo soft even when i put stuff in it to straighten it.

I will have to try that sheer blond line of products. I dont want my hair totally fried, and so many people recommend the stuff. Would putting a leave-in conditioner in before tanning work as a heat treatment under the tanning lights? It does get pretty hot under those bulbs sometimes.....

the life preserver is a heat acivated conditioning treatment

that would be so cool to do a conditioning treatment and tan at the same time.... talk about being good at multi-tasking!

Blonde hair does lighten in the sun or tanning bed. However, if you have light blonde (platinum) then the sun or tannning bed will "yellow" it! You will need to get a quality professional product meant for platinum blondes.

I do like the Sheer Blondes if I'm a medium blonde. However, I didn't find it all that effective for my platinum highlights.

So what are you suppossed to do if you have med. blonde hair with plat. hilites? (not that i do, but just curious!)

Anya1976

cover your hair... get a tannie cap that blocks uv light from messing with your hair

Use a product for Platinum blondes. It is formulated to take the ugly "yellow" color out that darkens the platinum. It will not hurt the other blonde.

I remember seeing Sheer Blonde products that says 'For Platinum Blondes'

There are a couple of their shampoos...

I have platinum chunks in my hair. I use Matrix essentials so silver to tone down the brassy tones. Also, my hairdresser told me I could rub accelerator through my hair when I tan to get rid of the brass, it works!!

Yes, Melty, there are several versions. However, this is not a professional product and is not sold in salons. Only salon products truly work on platinum blondes since it is such a light shade and prone to becoming dull.

Annie, my hairdresser told me to make the heat from the beds work for ya and put on a deep conditioner when you're tanning. The heat penetrates the product to get a great conditioning treatment!
Don't know about the blonde stuff. My brown hair likes to lighten in the beds.

I didn't read all the posts, so I don't know if anyone suggested it or not. BUT there are blue and purple shampoos that will tone down any brassiness. Gray and white haired people use them to keep the yellow out. Works really well. When I have blonde hair I use one of those (can't think of a brand right now) about once a week.

I use Sheer Blonde and I think it does help. I have never had a problem with my hair fading while tanning, actually I think it's like being in natural sunlight and bleaches my hair out more.

use toner (the purple stuff) every week or so.

I get my hair highlighted with bleach and foil (zig zag thing) where its all over but very natural, when you get your hair highlighted, in most cases it is done with bleach, and bleached hair cannot get darker unless colored.

what does a tannie cap look like and is it available on-line, as I keep getting foils done for different colours and it just keeps getting lighter with the sunbed

I have blonde hair as well with highlights.....use shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair and if that doesnt help then go back to the stylist that did it and have them put toner on it....most places wont charge you as long as you call them and explain you situation. Hope that helps you a little
