I've read several posts over the past few days about people who don't tan their faces... it never occurred to me not to.
Do you tan your face? If you don't, why not and how do you get it to match the rest of your bronzed bod?

Ok, here's my deal, I do tan around 4 times a week, I tan my face 2 times a week...
The reason I don't tan it every time is because though I do practice safe sun exposure and good skin care, I realize that tanning is not the *best* thing for my skin, especially my facial tissue, which is the most sensitive and the most prone area to getting wrinkles...(which I hope to avoid)
NJChica, try the Derm Renew Self Tanner, Christine' sent me it and believe me, it makes my face match my bronze bod

I tan my face (using Illuminate). I want it to match as much as possible the rest of my complexion. I would be afraid to use a facial self-tanner although I have heard good things about Derm Renew's self-tanner, too. I am afraid I might turn orange or have streaks no matter how I tried to avoid that problem.

I have the same opinion as Tropical Image. Plus my face gets flushed very easily so my cheeks are red for hours after tanning - not exactly flattering. I'm going to try Matahari Lustrous and see how it does as a light bronzer. I already use bronzing powder but I want more even, over-all coverage without wearing tons of makeup.

I tan my face & use DS Saving Face.I know alot of tanners at the salon use a towel to cover theirs.SB Bronze Faces is pretty good.We also do airbrush "Sun Shower" facials at the salon.

I only tan my face about a couple minutes each tanning session, other than that its covered. I cover it because I break out alot from the rays. My face isnt as dark as my body but its dark enough to not look stupid.

I cover my face for some of my session every time. I am slowly upping the time I leave my face uncovered. But I have a really fair complex and my face doesn't tan as well. And I always look burnt when I get overheated no matter how tan my face gets. And I get overheated quite easily.

I do the exact same thing for the exact same reasons. Used to, I never tanned my face but the color change just got to different between my face and my body so I finally decided to tan my face half the time. My skin still looks pretty good for someone that will be 40 this year so I guess whatever I'm doing, it's working. I'm content with the color.[ This Message was edited by: AngiTN on 2003-05-06 13:58 ]

Why would you cover your face?

I cover each session till the last 5 minutes and then expose my face. My face tends to tan easily anyhow and if it is a little bit "off" from the rest of me I just use a powdered bronzer to brighten and even it up some.

I cannot get enough of the facials so I would never cover my face up. Unless the bed was cheap and didn;t have high pressure facials, then my face would fry!!! Oh my mom has always covered up her face.

I try to use beds with facials. Gives a much better face tan.

I use the facial tanner for about half my tanning time then turn it off..

I don't cover my face, but it never seems to tan as well as the rest of me, so I use a facial sunless tanner to match it up with the rest of me.
I always tan my face using a bed with the facials.. and sometime I use the face tanner (headlight) I love to have my face tan.. its really the only part of me that people see int he winter.

i tan my face. the beds i use have hp facials in them so i get a nice color on my face. i have never used a single facial unit. i rather just tan it in the beds. if i didnt tan my face it would look way different then the rest of me which i dont want. i love how a tanned face looks all year round.

I do tan my face. I put on tanning lotion or a facial tanning lotion. Remember, just laying a towel over your face will not keep it from getting any UV. If you can see light through something, the light can get to u. I have alot of clients who will wear their makeup because it has SPF in it. That will not keep you face from getting any color, just keeps you from getting alot of UV exposure. For those who dont clean their face when tanning, remember your pores open up when you are hot and that stuff on your face is just deeper into your pores.
Clean skin Tans best.

I tan my face sometimes, enough to get a good tan going, then I cover my face, don't want to wrinkle. So I use beach in a bottle if I need to even out my color.

The title of this post really had my mind curious as to what "it" refers to. I tan my face half the time with a face tanner.

WARNING!
Covering your face towel or tshirt are not protecting your facial skin. They are an SPF 6. If you are worried about damaging your face, wear SPF 25 lotion. If you are covering up to avoid a flush, you are fine, but you need to wear EYE PROTECTION UNDER YOUR TOWEL. The towel is NOT blocking UV light. If water goes thru it, so will UV.
By the way, your skin is damaged with burning, not tanning. Also damaged by not moisturizing with good healthy products frequently.

i just cover it up and turn off the facial lamps. i moisturize frequently, and i still use eye protection. my skin on my face is sensitive and doesn't tan, so i dont feel the need to tan it. i'm deathly afraid of wrinkles. lol

I cover it , as Brenda said, to keep from getting flush. I always, always wear my eye protection...

i only tan my face for 5-6 minutes each session, but i get more red than brown in the face, so i use bronzing powder mainly.

I always tan my face, I have a friend who always puts a towel over hers though, I never could or my face would be so white!!

I use spf 4 or 8 on my face when I tan. I do this to help prevent wrinkles. And also, as dark as my face would get,is just ugly on me. I like light tan color on my face. I find it natural looking for the facial skin to not be as dark as the rest of the body. I see that on most people who do tan thier faces anyhow...

I never thought about it either before, but I dunno, if I'm tanning the rest of my body, I don't want a naturally pale face with cosmetic bronzers, but I will just make sure I take care of it as much as I can while tanning.

I tan my face for about half the exposure time. . . I cover it up for the rest. I use Neutrogena Instant Bronze for Faces which helps even it out.

I tan my face because with a good tan...alot less likely to burn when I am outside...plus it looks better....I don't like seeing a bronzed chest open to a whitish face...I see that alot and it just plain looks bad to me

I tan my face. I use JA Creme Brulee on my face. I love it, it is so rich and creamy. Works as good as a facial lotion and I use it on my body too. I like to have a tanned face, then I can go without make up in the summer.

Same here, my body is always darker than my face and I dont want to use sunless lotion because it blocks the pores on my face

I see certain tanners that have really light faces, it looks strange to me. I tan mine, leave my make up on and use really good anti aging products.

Good job, Lacy and Diane! Worried about you for a minute!

i cover mine for probably 90% of the time. my face gets alot of sun anyway and i always just figured that if i tanned my face the whole time my face would get too dark and that wouldnt look right.

I was trying to tan my face but ti kept breaking out on the cheecks. It looked like I was burnt. so I now put an SPF 30 on it so that it doesn't get a whole lot on it and it seems to be doing ok. I tried it without the SPF 30 and yep my cheecks have been red for 2 days now. back to the spf 30 and I will use a bronzer on the face.
