I would love to have someone very knowledgeable at a gym to work with me. Does anyone have any idea (ballpark) what a consultation with a personal trainer runs? Do you just meet once or regularly or periodically? Thanks, I'm not fitness-savvy.

Congratulations! you'll love the results you get from working out and tanning! Rates vary a lot, of course, depending on the kind of gym you're joining; something like the Y or JCC will run you less than a more high-end fitness club or gym like Gold's, World Fitness, etc. Initial consultation can be free or maybe around $15 for an evaluation, and then after that it's an hourly rate. I charge (or rather the gym charges) about $60/ hr., which drops depending on number of sessions. How much time/sessions you do is up to you and your trainer!
Hope that helps! Both Carolinasizzle and I have a lot of experience with this, so PM either of us if you want!

I think most people meet regularly to workout with a personal trainer at first if they have no idea whats going on. Ask someone at the front desk of your gym, they could probably refer you to someone. I'm going to guess at about $20 an hour. I'm in Iowa though, and around small cities, so things are way cheaper around here.

I'm in Baton Rouge, don't know how the prices would compare. Sure would hate to impede my tanning budget....sigh. So many options, so little money!

they gym I used to go to closed, but they had allot of people on staff walking around just waiting to answer question and help out. I liked that cause sometimes my hubby couldn't go with me and I needed a spotter. I'd just go to a gym and ask the person at the desk, I'm sure they'd help you out the best they can

I think personal trainers are great but not a must. you could save yourself a ton of dough by picking up a couple isues of muscle and fitness (hers) read them! mimic the programs in there and work extra hard in the gym. what will then happen is, the other people in there will notice your work ethic and before you know it, you will make a couple gal friends. At that point simply ask if you could work out with one of them every once and a while. from there, you will learn somthing new every day. I think personal trainers are great but all they do it take a couple days and tell you how to fly and then, kick you out of the nest. Train with a freind that knows whats going on day in and day out. "lifes a dance, you learn as you go"....-Joe
