do you exfoliate your skin regularly?

many people with dry skin do not realize that exfoliation once a week can help remove the dead skin cells and reveal fresh smooth skin. on the flip side, some people exfoliate way too much (like every day in the shower) and that is too stressful on your skin and also removes that beautiful tan you've been working on.

How often do you exfoliate your skin? What do you use?

I exfoliate twice a week with Derm Renew's Pineapple Exfoliant. This product is amazing. It smells awesome and I don't think I'll be without this one on my shelf.

I use Lady Elizabeth Body Polish once a week. It has a smell similar to Bath&Body Works' Green Clove and Aloe. I didn't exfoliate regularly until recently and it makes such a difference in the way your skin feels!

I have been experimenting with different scrubs.I have found one I like that's supposed to be for tanners only & gentle enough to use daily.I still only use it once a week then
use something a little stronger once a week, too. The one for tanners is Norvell's TuneUp Shower Blaster for Tanners. It's a Shower Gel & Exfoliant. It's supposed to prepare the skin for tanning.

I exfoliate once a week and use Aveda's Smoothing Body Polish..sometimes if my skin feels drier I will use one of BB&W's sugar scrubs...gently!!! I can tell a HUGE difference if I dont exfoliate vs doing so.....but you are right..a lot of people tend to be over zealous when it comes to using a scrub for the body...I have seen some pretty messed up skin due to over exfoliating...facial and body!! And then some dont realize how beneficial exfoliating can be either...the key is to USE it but not scrub like your scrubbing a pot.....

Most of the time WHEN I use the BB&W sugar scrub I use it mainly on my feet and then douse my feet with some really good moisturizer afterwards. Its VERY greasy due to that nasty MO :b but the sugar does seem to work more like a pumice on the heels * for me anyhow*

i have a killer pedicure set for my feet i have a pumice stone in my shower all the time... the pedicure set has the callous shaver, and a cheese grater lookin thing with a foot file on the other side... i would recommend that to anyone who likes to pamper their feet but has issues with going to a salon for it (i personally have heard bad things about sanitation of those pedicure tubs so i don't like to put my feet in anything that might not be properly sanitized)

Honest to goodness that 'cheese grater' lookin thing is my best friend!!! I inherited those nasty dry heels!!! I use it all, the shaver (the best!), the foot file, the pumice stone... all wonderful too! I'm probably giving you a really bad picture of my feet... believe me, I just obsess about my feet. lol. Also you can drown your feet in lotion and put some old socks on when you go to sleep and it softens them right up!!

i obsess about my feet too... i walk around barefoot all the time so my heels and feet get dry and gross really quickly.

Hate to say this but I scrub with a body scrubber and St Ives Exfoliating liquid soap every shower

I am guilty of the loofah, instead of a wash cloth or sea sponge. I also use a very good seaweed soap. I have heard the warnings about loofah's while tanning, but I can honestly say, "I see no difference in my fading process." Seaweed is great for your skin, and I highly recommend it compared to many glycerin and moisterizing bars. I'll never go back to regular soap.

I use BBW shower scrub about once a week.

Is there a name brand of seaweed soap? I don't think I've ever heard of it, but I'd be willing to try it.

Oh yes...there is Aquoli you can find it on Ebay (just search, seaweed soap) and any Asian food or supply store has it. It's about 30.00 for a box of 10, or about 4.00 a bar. There is also this guy on Ebay with the seller name Herbalpro. He sells it pretty cheap, but it's not the Aquoli brand, but it's just as good. It's great for destroying acne, and it keeps the skin very taught and radiant. When you first use it, you may feel a lot of tightness in your skin almost like it feels dry, but it is not. Your skin is just adjusting to the change. The feeling will go away after about a week. Hope this information helps you. Have a wonderful day!!

Honestly, it depends on the your skin type, and how well you maintain your skins moisture. Not everyone's the same. For some who tan it makes it fade faster, and for other's it's really not that noticable.

If you want your skin to look healthy and radiant, exfoliate regularly. By removing the top layer of dead epidermis cells, you will make your skin appear smoother and less wrinkled.

1. Starting at the soles of your feet and working your way up your body brush off any dry skin with a loofah or a body exfoliating brush. Do this before bathing or showering.

2. Once your body is thoroughly wet apply some exfoliating cleanser to your loofah of exfoliating brush.

3. Scrub your body with it, using gentle, circular motions.

4. Opt for grainy types of cleansers to clean the skin, rather than soap. The grainy texture exfoliates the skin better taking off all dry skin.

5. Use a face cloth for mild exfoliation.

6. Rub rough spots, such as heels, with a rough stone/pebble.

7. Regular exfoliating is extremely drying to the skin and will do more harm than good unless the skin is rehydrated with lotions.

8. Apply moisturiser to your body before it is fully dry. Use a body moisturiser at least once every day.

Tip. Make your own exfoliating cleanser, if you prefer. Mix sea salt, olive oil and lemon juice together, or mix ground almonds and powdered milk. The combinations are endless.

Not a problem. If you and anyone else ever needs information about your skin, don't hesitate to ask. I have always been interested in skin conditions and treatments for as long as I can remember. I am going for my Esthetics license here in the fall. I can't wait.

you should not need to exfoliate every day.... removing the outer layer of skin every day is also removing some of your tan every day.

Just curious about the comment about exfoliating everyday is bad for your skin. If you use a washcloth or scrubbie net to shower off, then you are exfolitating. Even just using your hand and soap to wash causes exfolition. And then your skin naturally exfolitates without doing anything. So really there is no way not to exfolitate. I assume the comment meant using some gritty subtance?

Yes, I think she was talking about using the really gritty exfoliators, ie salt scrub.

I meant gritty lotions, loofahs, scrubbing mitts, etc..... of course washcloths and whatever else cause natural exfoliation.... I am talking about excessive exfoliation caused by scrubbing products.

Once every 7 to 10 days is best, more than that irritates new cell growth.

I exfoliate my body once or twice a week , I use BBW , I have a couple of different sents, depends on how i feel that day. I only do my face once a week, with 7day scrub from clinique. My feet about every 10 days when I do my pedicure.

I exfoliate when the urge strikes, always use a nylon scrubbie to wash with, so I guess I do it a lot. I do have a killer tan though.

I just started exfoliating, and wow! It has made a difference. I exfoliate about once a week. I use B&BW True Blue Spa I'm In The Mood For Scrub, or Urban Sun Creamy Coconut Body Scrub. For feet I use Toe The Line Foot Scrub by B&BW in the True Blue Spa line.

I exfoliate my whole body about once a week, and just hit the parts that are prone to breakouts (upper arms and back) about 2-3 times a week with Neutrogena Body Clear body scrub. Luckily, these are the parts of me that tan the best too, so I dont' think exfoliating a little more often than I should is hurting my tan. I just got the B&BW "Toe The Line" foot scrub, I love it! I do my feet a couple times a week too, but I mainly concentrate on the soles, cuz I'm always barefoot, so they get dry and icky pretty quick.

I use the BBW Sugar Scrubs for the most part.... even though they contain mineral oil. I used the Coconut Lime Verbena sugar scrub this morning and I'm all soft and non-itchy today.

I used to bathe w/a loofah every day. But, now I'm not using a loofah as much, and I've noticed that my skin is keeping the color better/longer.

bath gloves are harsh on your skin... that isn't "light" exfoliation...

I have such rough feet from these summer months and after reading posts about the "cheese grater" looking tool, I purchased one last night...and let me just say "WOW", it got rid of all the dead/calloused(sp?) skin that I have been trying so hard to get rid of for months...I also got a new pumice stone/foot file but I did not even need to use that last night...Thanks for the recommendation on the miracle foot tool...

I just bought a new body exfoliator. I normally dont exfoliate. I had just used body wash and a mesh puff but I bought an Aveeno one and it works great. Love the smell too. My skin was so soft and it does make you tan look better.

I just read this topic on exfoliation. I never realized this was so important to my tan! Thanks guys for all the info! But just a question: I use one of those scrunchy loofah things in the shower everyday. Is this too much exfoliation? I'm not too abrasive with it, but I don't think it's as gentle as a washcloth. What do you guys think? What do you use in the shower?

SexyKitty
12-16-2003, 04:04 PM
BronzedBunz I was just using a mess puff too and it wasnt rough so its okay. I still use one now everyday except for when I exfoliate and then I just use my hands to lather the stuff on.

I am trying different exfoliaters now...This week I tried St. Ives Apricot Scrub. It works rather well...I have another one I am debating on using...It is from Spa Reflections...Contains no mineral oils, but does have Sunflower oils and Orange oils....

Has anyone used Spa Reflections? If so I would like to heard comments...
