Ok since i am making ma "famous" sauce just wondering if anyone else makes homemade sauce? and if so if your ingrients arent a family secret what do you use?
Personally i use ground beef, italian sausage, and pork neck bones in my sauce. I also use onion green pepper mushrooms of course italian seasonings and i do put some chili powder in to add a little bit of spice to the sauce.

I use a jar of ragu, hamburger, and italian spices. Sometimes, for a change of pace, I'll use prego.

i haven't started to make my own noodles yet... but who knows.
I learned how to make sauce from my grandfather he learned from his grandmother who came from Tuscany. but over the years of making my own sauce i have added a few of my own touches (like the chili powder)
my friend from the salon i told her i was making sauce and she said she gets dibs on the leftovers (whatever we won't be freezing) i brought her spaghetti last time i made it (had a ton of leftovers that wouldn't be eaten) and she said it was pretty darn good lol

I don't have a clue how to make anything homemade. Well, maybe a couple of meals, but nothing spectacular. We eat out a lot.

I tried the homemade sauce route once and wasn't too impressed. Perhaps I forgot some ingredients and was too impatient. So, I just stick with either Barilla or Classico.

i do make my own sauce, it's my grandmother's recipe and its delicious. my boyfriend claims that his grandmother's sauce is better, but it IS NOT! [ This Message was edited by: tannymctannerson on 2004-06-08 21:39 ]

We do make our own spaghetti sauces, even if non of us is from Italy. My boys favourite is a rather simple tomato sauce. I use usually canned tomato, now in the summer I prefer fresh ones from the garden. Olive oil, onions, a bit garlic, many herbs and spices, fresh oregano, celery, a bit of honey and spoonful créme fraiche. My hubby makes a great spicy sauce bolognese variation with chillies.

I make my own, comes from way back in the 70's when Gattuso Corp. wanted to market a canned sauce and ask Mother Gattuso to come up with something. She did but it would have cost about $7 to make a can so they dropped the project but my dad was VP and kept the recipee which we still enjoy today! Yummy

try adding a can of diced tomatoes in there (drained).. and thyme is really good in it. My secret ingredient (well, not a secret anymore) is adding a pinch of sugar before I let it simmer.
