hi!
i'm new here + i have kind of a silly question. i have been fake tanning for a looooooong time, i'm probably single-handedly supporting the entire staff at st. tropez! it's just such a hassle, so i'm switching over to tanning beds. the thing is, i CANNOT be pale - for any amount of time! i tried letting my fake tan wear off, so that i could see me indoor tan progress, but looking in the mirror at my whiter-than-white skin really freaked me out, especially at 6am... so i'm back to fake tanning while i build up a 'real' tan, which i've been working on every other day for the last two weeks or so. my question is, although i know fake tan does not protect skin from UV rays, does it affect my results from the tanning beds? i've been using the HT60 stand-ups at Hollywood Tans, with a lotion, i moisturise religiously, don't go every single day, but have not changed color at all! soooo frustrating. does it always take this long? i did the skin type test and came out as 3B, surely i should be starting to see a result, i've had about 8 or 9 sessions now. should i be doing anything else, and is my fake tan holding me back from really tanning? you seem to know your stuff, hope you can help...!
thanks,

kelly.

I wouldn't think that your sunless tan would make a difference. Could it be that you just can't tell how dark you are because of your sunless tan? I'm moving this to ask the pros.

I just wanted to let you know that I'm also trying to get a tan before I stop sunless tanning. Isn't it frustrating? The lotion you use shouldn't interfere with the tanning rays at all. Even if you're using a lotion with UV protection, that only lasts until you take a shower. Just stick it out like I'm doing and hopefully we'll be dark very soon!

Sunless tanning will not block UV rays from a tanning bed... nor will it protect you. You need to just start at the beginning with building up a base tan. The DHA from the sunless tan will prevent you from seeing your actual progress until your color develops enough that you can stop doing the fake thing and not fade b/c you have a "real" tan underneath. Developing a tan takes awhile... be patient, keep taking care of your skin, and you will see results.

believe her it does take a long time, seeing a tan from a tannign bed does NOT happen over night, it took me about a month or 2 to see a good tan developing on me

Yes it is sooo frustrating! As if sunless tanning wasn't hassle enough, now i have to do it even more frequently as it fades faster from the beds. bring on that real tan... seen any results yet? [ This Message was edited by: ladydior on 2003-06-15 21:58 ]

A little, but my skin is pretty fair, so I really have to keep at it until I finally see good color. Have you darkened any?

nah... i'm fair too - VERY! i have that kind of see-through skin, so it's gonna take a while i think. i'm off to stock up on some more st. tropez tonight, i really don't think the world should be subjected to the vision of my pasty pins!

Lol, I sounds eactly like you! My skin's kinda like where if I am in a dark room, my skin will glow a neon white! I also HAVE to be tan. It's just really gross when my skin is it's natural color. Right now I'm using the Banana Bost stuff because it works pretty good for the cheap price.
