At the risk of being judged-is there anyone out there willing to admit to being in recovery for alcoholism or drug addiction?
I am a recovering meth addict & today is my
5 year clean date!I guess I've cross addicted to tanning but that's alot better than where I've been.

Thank you.I think we all have something we're addicted to,to some degree.Just some of us are more self destructive than others.Thank God I've gotten past that.

I don't go to meetings, either.I know they say that's bad but I believe it depends on the person. I went to alot of meetings for the first 2 years.I do alot of things to work on myself to become a happier, better person.I'm grateful for my addiction because
it led me to where I am today.I never knew Life could be so good & happy.Your cousin may be better off w/out meetings. Some of us are.I will send a prayer her way.

my cousin has relapsed b4 she's never been to any meetings, and she picks the wrong friends (people who are still using some sort of drugs) she's been to jail a few times for possession. she's 36 has 4 kids and doesn't have custody of any of them. i just hope she gets the kids back and gets her life back together

I have been clean and sober for 17 years now. Not a drop. Went cold turkey one day, no AA or support meetings although I have lots of friends that have gone that route with great success.

I have used marajuana twice and ued to smoke. I stopped when I was 7. I strted when I was aout 5. That is awful. I can't beleive I did that stuff. I have been clean for about7 years now. I can't do that stuff cause I am wanting to be a Police Officer. Unless I get a chance to go College and/or Pro(NBA) in Basketball.

Good for you Rich!!! My youngest sister has some alcohol addiction issues, she's been in recovery for several years, she just found out (for sure) her 3 year son has autism so I'm a little worried she might start drinking again

That's really impressive,Rich.I have alot of admiration for anyone who quits on their own. Most people have to be forced.DOC helped me into treatment & I went kicking & screaming.I don't know where I would be now if that hadn't happened.

Smoking. Sure it's legal and common-but it's a tramp, and hard to stop.

Congrates! I have a lot of respect for people who quits on their own. And for smoking: a friend and neighbor of mine had quitted heroin abbuse some on his own some years ago. He says, it was really hard - but somewhat less difficult than quitting smoking. Tobacco is a highly addicting drug.

Good luck, Luca; I had a cocaine problem too when I was around 19-20.

Congrats to those of you have kicked the bad habits. As for the need for meetings, some people can quit without them and, as a former social worker, I think sometimes the meetings keep the addiction too in your face for some people. I've run meetings where people would come in stoned, come back the next day stoned, etc. You don't quit until you're ready, no matter how many meetings you attend.
As for addictions myself, oh yeah! Food sometimes, tanning sometimes, shopping sometimes. It's always something. I think some of us are born with predispostions and I know there are studies about a genetic link to addictions. Sometimes my shoppping addiction is terrible; I don't feel right until I go buy something and next thing you know, I'm needing to do it again. Crazy, but pretty common. I need to find a really healthy addiction, like exercise or bargain shopping or something!

My hat is off to anyone who can realize their bad habit and kick it to the curb - I know that it can't be easy. As someone who has never smoked a cigarette and only had alcohol a couple of times, it's probably hard for me to understand the magnitude of an addiction, although my shopping is getting pretty close. Good Job Guys & gals!

my brother is into meth. its scary how much it changed him, it changes people in the worst way. i have bad memmories with that stuff though i never got started, i have done it before. my brothers ex girlfriend was pregnant with his baby and she was smoking dope and nobody could really stop her, she ave the baby up for adoption and by some mircale, the kid turned out healthy, 10 pounds, on time, but im sure he will be addicted to it, or have asthma or learning disabilities later on. im glad she didnt keep him though it would of been my first nephew, he didnt deserve that. and ive never really been addicted to anything but i do smok pot. congrats on staying clean im glad you were smart enough to get off it, thats an evil drug!!

YAY to everybody that realizes their problem and does something about it!! I'm so proud of you guys!

My biggest flaw is that I'm really selfish. I know I have issues, but I don't have willpower, so I salute you! WAY TO GO!!

Wow!this thread is over a year old & someone found it.By the grace of God,I celebrated 6 years earlier this month.Meetings are a good place to meet people. It's hard but you gotta give up the people that you've used with. That's probably one of the hardest things for most addicts.
