We tanned tonight in the standup. Not at the salon I've been raving about. I went first. I'm naked, lotioned up, and go to put the goggles on. The string won't stretch. No elasticity. I had keep switching hands to hold them on. It's my hubby's turn next. First of all, the guy did NOT clean the bed. I also mentioned about the goggles. He didn't clean them or change them. I will NOT be going back there. And if hubby does, he's taking his own dam goggles.

Those darn strings drive me crazy! At the salon I'm currently a member of (soon to change probably), they give you winkies with the stand-up beds. I cannot deal with the strings!

I know. But the owner doesn't seem to care. I'm gonna tell hubby to wear his flipflops (which i hate) in there the next time he tans. And make sure he uses a pair of our goggles.

That is just disgusting...I think I would go up to the owner and tell him how disgusted you are with his cleanliness...( lack of)

my mother in law once got onto a dirty bed, she told the manager, and got a free tan out of it. I'd go voice your concerns!

I went to a salon once that didn't provide goggles, it looked like the bed was 20 years old and never been cleaned.. and it was $11 for a single session! Will never go back there again...

I absolutely hate dirty tanning beds! At my salon that's not a problem but sometimes they don't do a very good job cleaning the top acrylic.
Yeah if you get the short end of the stick, definitely tell the one who's in charge or find another salon. And, word of mouth gets around fast.
CarSmithUGA: Sounds like a rip-off salon. Was it a souped up 24 bulb bed?
I have a story rather similar. But instead of a dirty bed, I'm talking about fraudulent advertising (hyping). So the rest of my post is OT in regards to this thread...

One salon that I went to many moons ago had a 24 bulb bed with 160 watt bulbs. So?, you say? Allow me to continue. It wasn't even close to being a new bed (at the time) but probably a late 1980's model. They called it their "European" bed probably because it had 160 watt bulbs and the top canopy can shut down real close (more so than their other beds). Because of it closing down so close, they called it "wrap around" which really wasn't true. The side where the hinges were, there was a significant gap between lower and upper canopies. And to top it all off, one of the workers at that salon said it was the best bed in Arkansas (LoL!!!) Uh-huh...
So we have a 24 bulb (160 watt /bulb) bed that closes up real close and it's the best bed... Well, it gave great colour no doubt but what irks me is when somebody hypes an old bed thinking its the best out there when I knew better
That salon is no longer in business.

sunbunny.... that is horrible that the salon doesnt clean their equipment and also just a suggestion maybe put a towel down in the stand up....a lot of people do that at the salon I work at....not because we dont clean the beds just to be a little more sanitary. Hey, it will be having tan lines from the sandals!! Hope that helps

Not cleaning the beds is pretty gross even if it is just feet that touch the stand up bed. Look luck on the search for a new salon!

I was under the impression that most salons were regulated by some kind state or local
office. If not, there's always the Board of Health when the general public is concerned.
eye infections such as the dredded PINK EYE is very contagious as well as staff infections
just lying in wait of some neked sole with open pours. Also there's the Better Business
Bereau.I'm pretty sure that any business that envolves the general public,& allowing them
to get naked and swetty, whether it be the local sex boutique with private rooms or boothes for those special viewings or tanning salons the public health dept.can and should
be able to bring the issue of cleanliness for the general public to their attention...

if you have any doult that the bed is dirty ask them to clean it again before you get in it. At the salon i tan at they leave the cleaning spray in the room and you can reclean the bed your self if you like. But i have never had to clean it.

26 states are regulated, some more heavily than others. I know in Texas, the health department's budget went from $300,000 per year to over $1,000,000 per year so they have become more vigilant about enforcement. I've had salon #2 for over a year now and they have yet to grace my doors there. Enforcement is only as good as the bodies they have available to go from salon to salon. We are regulated by the same group that checks medical devices and restaurants, so I'm sure they are stretched fairly thin, even with a bigger budget. Even so, it is much like speeding down the freeway, cops can't be everywhere now can they?

what is with these dirty salons? I tried a new one yesterday, nice sundash bed but the room was dirty, the top of the canopy was dusty, and there was debris all over the floor and some gross fuzzy stuff on the back wall behind the bed. Yak. I used to use a sand up in another salon where they never cleaned the floor, there was the same debris on the floor the entire month I tanned there. I woulnd have gone back but I bought a month for $25 and they let me use the high pressure stand up for that but yuk to their cleanliness.

Dirty salons remind me of dirty restrooms and dirty kitchens..... they are three places that you use a lot, and they should never, ever be dirty!!! It is common sense that these places are kept sanitary and clean because of people going in and out of them all day. The germs could thrive and mulitply in the unclean enviroment, and when you consider that probably more people than you can count on both your hands go in there each day, you could have people passing around the 'creeping crud'.
