This month's Consumer Reports has an article on the risks of common dietary supplements like Xenadrine, Metabolife Ultra and other "naturally" based additives. Apparently there is significantly heightened risk of seizure, kidney and liver failure, high blood pressure and certain cancers. (www.ConsumerReports.org) . It's the May 2004 issue.

I´ve never taken such diatry addives! Some people seem not to know "naturally based" isn´t the same as "without health risks" or "non toxid"! Tabacco is totally natural, poisonous mushrooms are natural, even strycnine is a natural stuff

It's awhole range of things; you'll have to check the article, but it's a lot of natural extracts that as Viking says, are not necessarily safe. Sorry to be indefinite, but the list is long and definitely should give someone pause before using them.

Here is a partial list (from my paper copy): Definitely hazardous: Aristolochic Acid, found in birthwort, snakeroot, snakeweed, sangree root, sangrel, serpentary, wild ginger; found in certain Chinese medicines, can cause kidney failure and death. Very likely hazardous: American Health and Herbs Ministry Asthma Formula 1040 Tincture; can cause irreversible liver damage and deaths reported. It goes on. I would suggest checking ANY herbal medicines you are taking very carefully.

Well thankfully I don't take any of this stuff so I don't have to worry about it! But yeah... there are lots of dangers. People just need to be sure that they take things right and don't overdo it. W/ anything... if you abuse it you're going to have problems.

Tobacco and liquior is just as bad but it's still on the market. If people want to endanger their life then I guess it's their choice.

Everyone has the right to really do w/e they want to do I guess. I just think it should be done in moderation. Except when it comes to tanning!

Quite right, Amandie! On the subject of tanning, all bets are off.
