I have a nice base tan and am starting my 4th week of tanning. Normally I use a 10 minute bed ( 1 time I used the mega bed) and am up to the full 10 minutes...today I wanted to go in the 20 minute bed...she only suggeted 10 minutes in the 20. Said that the 20 min. beds have more burning rays compared to a 10 minute and you shouldn't start right out at full time in a 20 after being in a 10. I looked at the bulbs in the beds...the 10 minute has genesis 10x bulbs and the 20 minute has Euro Sun Wolff bulbs. Can anyone shed some light as to why the time differs so much on the beds, ect.? Thanks

I am not a lamp expert but from what I have seen, most salons have stonger lamps in the 10 minute beds and weaker ones in the 20 minute beds. Maybe your salon does it the other way around but I doubt it. Try 15 in the 20 minute bed and see what happens. Are they the same price?

As they explained it to me....their 10 beds are more of a browning bed and they said I should go into the 20 every now and then to give my tan a boost in melanin production and then go back to the 10. As I understand it the 20 minute beds have more of the burning rays and the 10 more of the browning.

Most bronzing lamps have less UVB so when you go from the bronzer lamps to the base bed with more "B" you may burn. I use the bronzing lamps more and sometimes I switch to my base "B" lamps I do get a little more pink.
I would listen to your salon because they know their beds. I also tell my clients this from time to time if they don't switch around on a regular basis.

I went in the 20 min. bed yesterday for 12 minutes and I was pretty pink last night (oops) Time to baby the skin more than usual. Normally I don't get pink at all, but in those 20 min. beds I sure do so they must have more of the burning rays without a doubt. The bulbs were Wolff Eurosun bulbs. I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not. Next time I guess I'll only go 10...that sounds so weird to only go 10 in a 20 when I have been at 10 in a 10 for quite some time.

Yep...that higher concentration of UVB will get you every time. Sometimes it doesn't seem to make sense and we have to learn from experience. So I guess you learned......

By tanning with more uvb every now and then boost your tan? They told me to only go in about every 4th time and then go back to the 10 minute bed.

The different tanning beds seem so confusing! Then again, the salon i go to only offers one type of bed to use, so i never get to see what the other types are like.....

the uva is the browning rays the uvb are the burning rays. HP beds are usually all UVA beds so u get a darker color faster.
i know when i was building my tan in some of the higher beds i got pink since i had really no base tan. so becareful when you upgrade
