Just to add to our ongoing discussion of the pros and cons of low-carb diets, I was reading today that eating few carbs reduces your intake of folic acid, which is particularly important for pregnant women. Low levels of folic acid can increase the rate of birth defects like spina bifida.

An interesting topic to consider.

I say eat all foods. Just not too much of anything.

I supplement my folic acid intake with wheat germ and multi vitamins. I always drink extra OJ when I am pregnant too.
You can do a low carb version of Atkins while pregnant, but you have to stick with OWL (on going weight-loss), which is phase 3 & 4.

thats what gets me. we were always taught to eat everytthing in moderation..limiting my self id think would deprive me of so many needed things...Hmmm...
