Hi I wanted to say that I am 22, and at 15 I was 210 pounds. I am 5'5. I DO NOT EAT ANYTHING processed whatsoever... ONLY fresh fruits and veggies, and meats. NO bread, soda, juices, fruit that is in a can.... I do eat about 200 grams of carbs a day. But because they only come from natural fuits, I am not eating the BAD carbs. I also EAT PROTEIN at EVERY meal. Protein is essential for muscle formation and development, and muscle burns more calories than fat... I eat about 1500 calories a day, maybe 1600..It dpends on my activity. I exercise 5 days a week 1 hour a day. DR ATKINS WAS right about the amount of processed junk we eat!!! bUT FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO CANNOT EAT totally atkins this may work. I lost all 100 pounds in about 5-6 months.

By the way, what kind of exercise(s) do you do?

Thats a relatively short time to lose 100 pounds Wow! I bet you feel so much healthier. I have a friend that lost 100+ pounds in about 1yr. and she's like a new person just with the different activities she's now able to do and has really changed her whole emotional well being!

I use an elliptical trainer for an hour everyday. I also wieght train 30 minutes a day too. I lost it all about 6 years ago, when I was 15. YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE how much I ate everyday!!!! IT WAS SO MUCH JUNK AND CANDIES... Today I still do my same routine..I eat about 1600 calories a day... I have a 6-pack stomach sort of...I don't like a lot of heavy muscle on women...

I weigh 118 now..I never hot a plateu, just steady loss..the first month was crazy 48 pounds! I did too much that month, so I scaled back a bit. I did not want to have too much extra skin to deal with....

My boyfriend couldn't do this because of the no soda or alcohol. I couldn't do straight atkins because I am italin and I gotta have pasta and rice. I am 140lbs right now and want to get back down to 120 lbs. My bf is 250 lbs and wants to get back down to 200. How can we do it with our problems? We plan on working out 3 times a week for 1-1 1/2 hours, is taht enough? Help!

Have you tried whole wheat pastas? I know they're strange at first, but I'll be you could get used to them quickly! Just a thought....

HONESTLY YA have to work out everyday with that kind of eating..YOU MAY ALSO want to try LOW CARB PASTA....It tastes great and has protein!! YOU can still loose and eat pasta. But eat smaller portions, and remeber to exercise every day! 1 and a half hours. I DO IT EVERYDAY TOO...IT IS WORTH MY 6-PACK..
CariFairy

The main thing to remember is portion control. LOW CARB RICE IS OUT THERE TOO. YOU have to remeber all this stuff is processed and bad for you. You could die early from eating this way, because of diabetes, and high cholesterol. I am a nurse too...

I find it so amazing Cari that when yo first came to this board you bashed Atkin's along with the rest of them, and now you are practically promoting it??????????? What's the deal lady?? Have you finally done your research and discovered what Atkin's is trully about and put the myths surrounding it behind you.??

Your b/f can drink diet coke with alcohol for ZERO carbs.
It's the wine, wine coolers, mixers, etc that have carbs from sugar and beer has carbs from grains...but there are at least 2 good low carb beers and regular alcohol, such as bourbon, scotch, etc. has 0 carbs.
as far as your pasta, there are low carb pastas, but they suck big time. You'd be surprised what isn't so tempting when you start to see how thin you can be.
NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS BEING THIN!

You can still gain weight from alcohol even though it contains no carbs. Alcohol still raises your insulin, and can set you back in your weight loss goals tremendously.

I drink like MAYBE one drink a month, if that...but for those who use that as a reason to not do low-carb, I always offer that info.
I don't believe in being drunk...I'm a control freak. I think having the _very_ occasional Maker's Mark bourbon and diet ginger ale is ok with me.

A low carb store just opened near me a few months ago. But, my doctor said it's overpriced and overrated. Hope yours is better.

I NEVER BASHED ATKINS, just the people who never eat fruit. LOW CARB can be very damaging to the kidneys too actually.. HERE IS WHAT I eat daily
BREAKFAST:4 egg whites apple or orange or other fruit
LUNCH: fish, chicken, meat, and TWO VEGGIES
Dinner : SAME AS LUNCH. I ALWAYS eat protein at every mealI always eat a fruit or veggie at every meal
SNACKS: Fruit, veggies, or lowfat cheese.carrots

I know many diet myths I am A REGISTERED NURSE WITH MY bachelors degree.. I also eat 200 grams of carbs a day, with all the fruit I eat. BUT BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT PROCESSED I DON'T GAIN WIEGHT...It's all about the PROCESSED STUFF..That is where I disagree with going too much low carb. I eat like 8 fruits and veggies a day.

Prove to me why low-carb is so damaging to the kidney's?
If you are a nurse or not, your opinion makes no difference to me based on your profession.
My doctor is the one who put me on Atkin's, and my best friend who is an RN is on it herself, and she see's no issues with it, if done correctly; just as the book stresses in almost every single chapter.
Atkin's does not cut out fruit, except during induction; which is to be done a minimum of 14 days. Some have been known to do it for up to 2 years, and ended up healthier then ever.
Some of us just cannot handle sugar, and yes, even from fruit.
And, by the way, most low-carb packaged foods are less processed, especially the breads. So I am a little confused by your statement.[ This Message was edited by: ~*HoneyBee*~ on 2004-02-16 18:53 ]

You cannot simply cut out fruits. They are good for you. The amount of carbs in them doesn't matter. There are way to many essential things in them that your body does not need to go without. I agree with CariFairy with her opinions on Atkins. Some parts of it is healthy but other parts (like no fruit) is not. I don't care if it it just the 2 week induction, you are depriving your body of things it needs. I also understand that for some Atkins works, and if it works for you then I think thats great, and I too have heard of doctors placing patients on it for various reasons. I don't care what anybody says though, depring your body of fruits and/or veggies is just unhealthy. If not now, it will catch with a person later in life. IMO

02-16-2004, 09:37 PM
hmmm...considering that the person starting Atkin's probably never really ate fruits to begin with. Going to weeks without them, I seriously doubt will make a big difference. Besides I eat fruits all the time.

Yea I guess Dr. Atkins never ate fruits, but then again, everyone has their own opinions on what they believe is good for you and what isn't. Also, many different doctors have their beliefs on whats good and what isn't, so it all comes down to who or what you believe is right for you, individually and as a person. Going 2 weeks without fruits, your prolly right, wouldn't make much of a difference but if it becomes habitual and you never eat them, or the diet is interpreted wrong, then thats what can cause problems. I too, eat fruits all the time, so I guess i'm not worried about it.

all this "registered nurse" crap really does not impress people...
you can become a registered nurse after 2 years at a community college...LOL
but anywho, yeah yeah yeah, I heard ya...the bachelors degree and all...
you and about a bazillion other people who are not experts in ANY field because of that piece of paper.
Get your masters or your phD and work in the field about 30 years...then you'll be close to knowing what you're talking about...maybe.
I have a BA in English and Communications...working on one in Economics...
I have terrible grammar and spend money like it's water...and I never went below a 3.8 - EVER.
Degrees are just wall decoration. Life...living...experienc e...these are the places we learn...this is where we get our true education.
so please, for me and for the others who are sick of people tossing out "I'm an RN" like it means you're on the verge of curing the world of disease...stop.

I am working on my masters right now, at that point I will be able to prescribe drugs, and I will be able to dianose. I am not saying two weeks without Fruit will kill you, I am saying that some people I have seen actually do not eat fruit at all... That is my point, a diet with NO fruit is very bad for you....

As soon as I get my masters, I am going to enroll in a special program that lets nurses with higher education become Physicians. It is a difficult program, but my aunt did it, and she is very happy. My mom did not have the nerve to become a doctor.

my mother tried to convince me to become a nurse practitioner which is NJ's version of the nurse/doctor thing... never did it though which is a good thing since the medical malpractice insurance here in the state is skyrocketing.

BENEFITS OF STRIPPING
no schedule you come and go as you please
1000$ plus a week working two days a week...maybe three..for 6 hours... If you get sick, there is no need to call in and ask, you just do not go in . Nobody questions it...If I have a big test and need to study, I just take two weeks off, no questions asked... I like it

everyone just settel down now, lol:P
anyways... a diet is suppose to be custom to you
so everyone is going to lose weighrt a different way..
some diets that may work for you wont work for someone else
it al depends on how your body registers food
going 2 weeks withought fruit wont kill you
but it is important to at least take a suppliment because friut has good vitimns in there and also b12 which alot of women are low in
even if you eat like an orange a day or an apple you will be fine
or even a glass of orange juice
im 5 foot 1 and weight 128 i want to lose just a bit of weight cause my tummy is a biy chubby, so i think ill go on a low carb diet for a while and see how that goes
