View Full Version : Listen to your body!

I mean REALLY listen! With all the discussion of diets, in the end what matters is what your body tells you. Metabolisms differ and body types differ, and that means some people can get thin and some can't. But eating only what you feel you need and making sure you get some reasonable activity is all there is to a healthy lifestyle. We can't all look like Paris Hilton (or, hopefully, want to).

That is true. Some people will never be able to look like Paris, but who would want to be that skinny?

Yeah, I'm built more "Sporty" as my hubby likes to tell me and I can't and haven't ever been able to be that "Paris" Skinny. I'm only 5ft tall *Well, 5ft 1in * , so I'm more in the Athletic build, and I've always had more muscle so I haven't been able to look really thin.... and it's taken me MANY years to totally come to grips with it, and except my build for what it is, Healthy and MINE!
I just eat as healthy as I can, give a few "Rewards" here and there, and as long as I can get up in the morning, do all I need to in a day, run around and play with my kids, and get my excersising in most of the time, I'm finally a happy camper with that.
Just be happy with yourself and don't try to compare to someone else, our builds are unique to us, so work with what ya got

Not everyone can wear skinny well either - when I was losing weight last summer I went 10 pounds too far and everyone was asking me if I was sick and I was far from skinny so what works for some people looks horrible on others. Your body will usually maintain its ideal weight if you eat healthy and excercise.

Thanks. That was my intention, to make it clear that you have to be yourself, no matter what you see around you. But most people can probably lose some weight if they simply allow themselves to.

i have tried very hard over the years to put on weight..i never liked being the skinny kid growing up..but i was always athletic not wimpy..we all come in different shapes and sizes..thats why i turned to weight training..ive put on enough muscle to not appear so skinny..we should all be happy with what god gave us and we can make the most of it....i really think skinny "like paris" is out..more woman seem to be wanting curves and meat on their bones..hurray!

I will never go back to eating all the refined crap. Since I have stopped consuming it my allergies (both food and nature)have gone away, I have lost a considerable amount of weight, and my skin looks awesome. The Atkins' plan worked for me, (and yes I do eat my carbs every single day.)

honey is a smart lady..so many allergies start in infancy..due to the fact that parents introduce new foods too fast and not enough time in between..get rid of so much processed food artificial this and that and you feel healthier and like honey said your skin looks healthier too

Cupcake, I'm the same way. I have a small frame and gain weight through muscle. I also have a permanent struggle with bulimia that dates back to my teens, so eating and diet issues are of great concern to me.

thanks for the reminder.
When I was working in a high-stress teaching position a few years ago, I lost 30 pounds from not eating, working, commuting, etc. I thought I loked really good.
my boyfriend saw a picture of me from back then and was appalled at how thin I was.
I look good with some muscle on me, according to him.

well ive noticed when some people lose weight..it really shows in the face..like your chheks are drawn in etc.bonnie..i have a very good friend who owns a gym in asheville n.c. she is a competitive body builder as well and has struggled with bulemia for so many years..it really breaks my heart..she calls me from time to time to tell me shes going to eat a whole pie or pig out on something and she just needs someone to talk her down. shes lost alot of her hair and she has a hard time buiding her abdominals because she has done so much damage..ive tried so many times to tell her that she need sto get in a group of others with htis but shes embarassed because she doesnt want it to become public..body image issues sometimes never go away. the first sep like with any disorder or addiction is to confront it..i think you are awesome bonnie and help all of us alot

those muscles get sore really easy in the beginning..as you keep doing them it will get less and less sore..you really should do some walking on the days youre really sore it helps warm the muscles..does your gym have a leg press machine?? light light weights will help some too.if you havent worked out or done so in long time then squats and lunges are more advanced.leg presses and leg extentions and curls may help..

i normally do tons of walking, but with campus being piled up with snow, i've only been shovelling the driveway. my "gym" is in my basement actually my dad was a bodybuilder a few years ago, and we have a nice array of equipment. i'll keep going on the step climber, i like that!

Go for it Laynie! I'm glad you're working out. Where do you go to university, by the way?

Caffiene isn't good for you, it will also make your body retain alto of water. Replace regular coffee with decaf or reg tea to decaf. Start slowly, pour a half cup of reg and a half cup of decaf together. This way you are gruadually easing off and you won't get headaches and fatigue.

I couldnt never be skinny like paris because i dont have petite bones like that . I have a more athletic build not too athletic but could never be skin and bones... if you know what i mean . For example all during high school i was a size 6, i just dont think i could get smaller than that. right now i am a size 10 and i think that i look pretty good i mean i dont have alot of fat but i still dont think i would look right as a size 2 or something like that
