First I want to say Hi all....I am new here..
Has anyone noticed a link between tanning and natural loss of weight??
I have tanned for the last 9 years and have always maintained a nice slimness....I stopped tanning for the last 18 months due to alot of moving and life changes...and gained 60 pounds...I started tanning again 2 weeks ago and have lost 8 pounds without trying!!
has anyone else ever experienced this or heard of this??
P.S. awesome site!!

Welcome! I doubt tanning is the direct link, but tanners are generally more body conscious so that might play a role. When you are going through a lot of changes, diet and exercise tend to get overlooked too.

Welcome to iamtan Sunderella, I don't believe tanning has anything to do with weight loss. When you tan you feel better about yourself and probably have more energy.

Double what crazy said - but you might loose a little weight while tanning if u sweat. But I doubt it would be enough to loose 8lbs in a week!
have you worked out or eaten any different?

This is a debatable topic for some experts. And I can't quote any research, but I have read and heard it's possible. Does it make you lose a substantial amount - I doubt it. I think it has more to do with how you see yourself and how tanning makes you feel!

I have noticed alot more energy...probably accounts for alot....but I also can't help but feel it may boost your metabolism as well....maybe something I should look into..I know that I had been pretty depressed since I stopped tanning and probably ate more than I realized now that I look back on it..
thanks for all the great input

Okay, now you're cooking with fire! Sunlight, whether it be natural or artificial sunlight does help with depression! Question answered! Yea!

I think tanning and slenderness go hand in hand. I have never seen an overweight person at a tanning salon.

Many different size and shapes of people tan, everyone wants to look good and feel great. Tanning is a great feeling and self-esteem booster.

Yea, ppl of all different sizes go to my salon. I am not skinny, but I am not extremely overweight and I go tanning. People that tan want to look and feel good and I think I look good and I definitely feel good It makes me mad when ppl think you have to be 125 lbs to go to a tanning salon.

I always thought that because you tan, your lifestyle also changes a little because it helps promote a sort of new healthy-type regime

Yeah it definately has me in a different frame of mind...tons better to be honest

LucaBella, I fear that is wrong. UV may stimulate your metabolisms a bit, but even moderate exercising will do much more.

Thought it would be nice to debate this topic again, and to show Sunderella's first post!

Wow, that is Sunderella's firat post, hopw cute. I do agree that tanning causes weightloss because it releases endorphins which make you happy and gives you more energy. So you do more and feel better about yourself.

Excellent post to bump up. I'm overweight and I find that I feel healthier and make wiser food and exercize choices since tanning. I personally find myself more attractive when I tan.

My thyroid needs some stimulating! I am hypothyroid and I take thyroid replacement hormones. It is almost impossible for me to lose weight because of my darn thyroid!

WOW... this is a very interesting topic. It made me realize that since I have only tanned once in the last month I have been putting on a couple of pounds. When I was tanning steady year around I actually lost weight. Hmmm.... whatever works!!! I going back to tanning more regularly!!!!
wow sun, this is one of your old posts revived!! lol
I have heard (and read) that tanning can raise your metabolism... it's not enough that tanning can become a 'diet' but it can help!

My mom has gone back and forth from hyper to hypo over the years. She has 1/4 of a thyroid gland left and gets tested several times a year.
I have the sypmtoms of hypothyroidism but my blood work always come back in the "normal" range.

I always feel thinner after tanning, i also feel like i look slimmer when i am tan. I tan at my gym and the rooms are pretty bright, so when im lotioning up in front of the mirror i can see every little bump or bulge of fat and I know that it motivates me to work out harder!

Now that I am preganat I have become hyperthyroid which is really strange, I have been hypo for so long.
When I first had my thyroid levels checked they were normal but in the low normal range. When I started taking thyroid replacement hormones I felt SO much better. You should talk to your dr. because even if you are in the "normal" range you might benefit from treatment.

I personally always feel better when I am tanning. Right now I'm not. Trying to give my skin a little bit of a break over the winter months. I start back up at the end of Feb. I have also noticed that I have put on a little bit of weight, about 5lbs.
It may not be directly related. Maybe it's just stripping down to nothing, and looking in the mirror when you are putting on lotion that makes us all more aware.

Hi Everyone! Some may remember me. I haven't been on this site in over a year. Well I'm back. I gained 40 pounds this year and am white as a ghost. My goal is to lose it all and be bronzed again in 4 months. With the help of the Atkins diet and my tanning bed I'll be back to my hot self in a few months!!!!!
