Sigh* I have been gaining a lil to much weight in the last six months and am not happy with my weight. I can not do the low- carb diet because I need to have fruits and/or veggies on a regular basis or I get sick, so I decided on a low fat diet. Any suggestions on things to eat other than *blah* salad??
Here is what I had yesterday-
Breakfast:
*Two pieces of toast with strawberry preserves, no butter
*Coffee with fat-free creamer and sugar
*glass of OJ
Lunch:
*Lean Pocket (Meatball and Mozzarella)
*Pineapple cup
*Propel Fitness Water
Snack:
*Sugar-Free Jello Snack Pack
*Fat Free Gourmet Spicy Black Bean and Blue Corn Chips
Dinner:
*Garlic Chicken Stir Fry plus extra mushrooms
*Green salad with tomatoes and pickles with fat-free italian
*Apple Juice
plus lots and lots of water and 100% juice juices.

You can have fruits and veggies and berries on Atkins' just not during the induction phase. Low-fat diets don't exactly work in the long run.

whaddya mean?
~*HoneyBee*~
01-20-2004, 10:35 AM
Well, during induction you are limited to only 20 carbs a day for about 2 weeks, but some extremely overweight people do induction for 2 years. I should have rephrased that above post of mine. You can't have fruits and berries and nuts during induction. Only meat, cheeses and vegitables like dark leafy greens, mushrooms, bell peppers, sprouts...etc. This helps your body burn up all the excess sugar and carbs, and you switch to burning stricly fat mainly. After induction you continue with on going weight-loss (OWL). THis is where you start bringing back in the more complex carbs like fruits. You start adding berries and nuts too. You can modify your carb in take how you please once you reach your goal weight. I think most of us on here stay between 40-80 carbs a day.

I always just follow a low fat/low calorie diet and you just have to watch your sugar intake, I think in the long run it works really well - it's all about moderation so its something you can always live with.

you can do an internet search on low fat diets low carb diets..watch those fruit cups too..they contain fructose..
~*HoneyBee*~
01-20-2004, 10:51 AM
Seems like just about everything has fructose in it anymore...even the stuff that's low fat. It may be low in fat, but it'll make you fat.

so I should cut out any prepacked fuits and only do fresh?? I usually try to, but those are easier to bring to work.
cupcake65
01-20-2004, 10:58 AM
as far as fruit cups make sure it say in its own juice..or at least light..apple juice is a no no..loaded with sugar..oj is good in moderation..im not familiar with propell..prepackaged salads and carrits are great with a non fat dressing...

looking at the pics in your gallery, I dont' think you need to be on a diet. If you have it stuck in your head you need to lose weight though nothing I can do to tell you different. Sounds like your food intake and diet are fine. Throw more healthy snacks, such as fresh fruits, in through out the day. Make sure you are keeping the fluids flowing too. Dehydration is huge factor in slowing your metabolism. How much physical activity would you say you do in a day? You can eat the healthiest foods in the world and it won't do you a bit of good if you aren't getting some excersize

I understand. I've put on about 5 pounds since Thanksgiving and even that much is driving me nuts. I think you're on the right track with the low-fat low-cal diet. Unfortunately, I'm not a very good cook so I can't help you out with any recipies. When I'm dieting I will usually stick to a lot of the same food I normally eat but cut the portions WAY down (at least in half). That way I don't feel so restricted and I'm always surprised at how fast I can feel full (since many people tend to eat past that point just to clear their plate).
How much are you working out? What types of exercises are you doing? You'll tend to see results faster if you're exercising along with the diet.

from the look of that diet you arent eating enough protein. What is fitness water anyways? Sounds like a gimmick. Just drink regular water

i agree with regular water

It is a marketing ploy, its jsut crappy tasting gatorade. If you are really worried about losing those valuable nutrients gatorade replaces drink 16 oz of water witha tsp of salt and a tsp of sugar mixed in. You also have to hydrate continuously with regular water.

I am a nurse so I'll say low fat is best!! Heck at age 15 i was 210 now i am 120. Low fat eating has kept it DOWN! LIKE Ladyboss said everything in moderation!!Besides eating lots of protein kills your liver and kidneys.I've seen people in the ER in reversible kidney damage who were on low carb diets!I am 21 now:)

Don't eat a breakfast packed with carbs in the morning, it gives you a bit of a boost but then burns off quick leaving you more hungry and more likely to snack on bad choices. Instead of the two pieces of toast, try a cup of oatmeal or a light fat free yogurt. Kill the coffee and drink water or more OJ.
For lunch get rid of those Lean Pockets, no good for you. Try making a sandwich with whole wheat or reduced carb/calorie bread like Sara Lee. Take a banana instead of the fruit cup and drink more water.
For snacks try a granola bar, more fruit, cottage cheese or yogurt.
As far as dinner, try some baked chicken and brown rice. Make a salad with only chopped tomatos, feta cheese, balsamic vinegar and cucumbers.
Good Luck!

should I not eat fruits and veggies? are they to much carbs? grrrrr, what is a good snack?
~*HoneyBee*~
01-21-2004, 12:22 AM
No your fruits and veggies are just different types of carbs. They are the good carbs. You can eat that Feta all you want just don't eat it with refind sugars and flours.
I munch of pork rines or clerey filled with whole cream cheese and bacon bits. I also eat strawberries ( all berries actually) and green olives and nuts. Those are a good example of some low-carb snacks.

I munch on fruits, jello, organic trail mix (which I LOVE) and cereal. But hey it totally depends on what diet your on then to what you can snack on.

yea i know, i am not really on a specific diet lol, i am too picky for it and i am vegetarian so i can't really do the lotsa meat ones.
Blondie41280

HA same here thats why I pretty much invented my own lil diet since im way to picky on what I eat. Im on a low fat and less red meat diet. I wish I could be a vegetarian I am just to hooked on eating meat. Its been hard enough just cutting back to eating it 2 times a week.

I agree...Soy is not as great as everyone thinks it is. Especially, the way it's grown and treated here in the states. I have an article if you are interested.

I feel a LOT better, more energized and peppy. I kinda felt sick for a while when my body was getting used to eating so many veggies, but it payed off. I cut out the prepacked fruits, and went crazy with fresh ones, and that is actually a really easy snack, fruit salad! I am feeling a lot better, I can actually see a difference in the way my clothes fit already. When someone like me who is so small framed, if you gain one pound, it shows. If you lose one pound it shows. So far so good. And I cut out soda and get FUZE "slenderize", sugar free and only 2 carbs, soo gooood. And after that is gone just lots of water. GO ME!!

Some lowfat recipies: Use white meat from chicken, put in the oven with lemon slices and pepper on it, and put some lemon juice and water in the bottom of the pan, bake at 450 till done, (cover with foil if you like it extra moist), prepare some brown rice and greenbeans, and you can put a little light soy sauce on it. (a lot of the fat drains out of the chicken and into the water, you can see it, its pretty cool.) Or, chop up a breast of chicken into small 1 inch cubes, and dont put any of the fatty parts in, put it in a non stick skillet with orange juice and a little bit of cornstarch (Mix the cornstarch and the juice before they go in the pan or you'll get cornstarch "dumplings" which are gross), and let that heat untill the chicken is done and the orange juice makes a nice glaze on the chicken... put on a bed of baby spinach and add whatever fresh veggies you like... Dont be afraid of cooking, just add whatever you want and cook it the way you want, the worst that will happen is that it won't taste good.

THe no fat cheese cake made by Jellow is good. Very easy to make. I have a good one for receipe, basically all you need is the noodles, fatfree evap milk, parsley, basil, green onion and red bell pepper (probably missing some spices)makes a really good pasta!
