you can blame Mitzi for this one.

do you enjoy cosmetic bronzers? do you specifically buy lotions because they contain cosmetic bronzers or do you just accept them if they're in a lotion that you like for other reasons?

For those who do not know the difference, there are 2 types of bronzers: DHA and cosmetic. DHA bronzers contain a "sunless tanning" ingredient that will automatically darken on your skin after a few hours to give the appearance of a darker color. Cosmetic bronzers are like skin "makeup"; they are a tint that makes the skin appear darker than it really is that wash off when you shower.

I like a LIGHT dha bronzer As far as a cosmetci bronzer goes, If a Lotion I like has it ok, but i would not seek out one just for that puropse, I like brown sugar total hemp hot. but the bronzer in it i can take it to leave it seeing as it washes off, kinda makes no sense..

Doesn't a sunless tanner wash off too? I prefer dha because it makes me darker and lasts longer, but it washes off in a couple days. I guess I could careless if its a sunless tanner or cosmetic bronzer.

yes it will eventually wear off... but it lasts days as opposed to the hours before a shower for a cosmetic bronzer.

Personally, I hate cosmetic bronzers. I just don't see the point. I always shower before going out, so tanning with a cosmetic bronzer would not have any impact on making me look "darker" for wherever it is that I'm going.... DHA all the way baby.

bronzers are for people who don't tan! why use a bronzer if you tan, unless your salon is subpar and never changes the lamps. use sunless and save your money. if i owned a salon i'd refuse to sell bronzers because to me bronzers would mean my beds can't give them the tan they pay for.

I agree Star. I like to see what my real tan looks like, not the stained color I've gotten from dha. I do enjoy the color dha gives me though.

i like dha bronzers.... since i tan at night (usually later) so if i use a cosmetic bronzer it doesn't matter since i am going to sleep lol. i prefer color that will last a little longer than my next shower.

When i use DHA bronzer lotions...I seem to never see any 'Extra' color...
I remember someone telling me that my skin could be so well hydrated that the DHA doesnt work as well...

I don't see the point of cosmetic bronzers either. Most people, I would assume, shower before going anywhere after they have been tanning, so why bother? I have used a DHA bronzer once so far (Dark Kickin' Ale) and I liked it, but I wouldn't want to sue it all the time. I don't need to be extremely dark and am pretty happy with the tan I have, so it is just easier to use a good ol' browning lotion instead.

what would I look for on the bottle to know if my lotion contains a cosmetic bronzer?

njchica
05-06-2003, 10:33 AM
well... I know what would be missing. It would be called a "bronzer" but would not contain dihydroxyacetone (DHA).

all of JA/Cote D'Azur bronzers are cosmetic, most of SB ones are... most of the Carribean Gold ones, AG Iced Creme...

So, if I use a lotion that has DHA in it as a moisturizer, will it continue to darken me along with my tanning, kinda like a sunless tanner?? Will I start to have that "Fake" look, even if I'm tanning and using a non DHA lotion??

njchica
08-05-2003, 06:45 PM
yes it will darken you..... you won't have a fake look if you are using one that is not too dark for you.... it all depends upon what your level of tan is.

I really want to try the Revive Plus by Biddiscombe. It's a moisturizer with DHA.

Sometimes I use the Black Tea as a moisturizer cause it smells good - I don't get the whiff of fritos when a breeze comes by. And then I can tan later in the day with the DHA set in from the Black Tea.

I use bronzing lotions almost exclusively and I know what my real tan looks like because I do not use the lotions on my face! All I have to do is look at the part of my earlobe that sits against my cheek; if I lift that, I see my original (WHITE) color! I have great color even without bronzers!

I heard about that moisturizer as well.... it sounds very interesting.

Andre from Ultimate told me that they USED TO have a tan-extender with DHA but discontinued it.... and they were thinking of possibly bringing it back.

Chica, I've got a pretty dark tan now, and I've decided to try the Double the Bronzer by Breeze, because it smells AWESOME and makes my skin feel like SILK, as the moisturizer instead of tanning lotion, and I'm rotation lotions right now, and I'm not sure if they've got DHA in them or not, so how does this sound to you?? Will I keep getting darker anyways?? If I choose this moisturizer with the DHA, sould I cut down my tanning to 3x a week?? Whatcha Think??

njchica
08-05-2003, 07:46 PM
I've never tried that lotion so I can't really talk specifically about it... a DHA bronzer will help to keep you dark even on days that you aren't tanning. I don't think you'll need to cut down on your sessions unless it is a very dark bronzer...

what other lotions are you using? maybe we can help you to figure out if they have DHA.

I tan right before I go to work, so I don't mind lotions with cosmetic bronzers in them. I like lotions with dha in them if I'm going out somewhere at night to give my color a boost. I just hate how it's not your actual color.

Well, I'm trying several lotions out, some fiesta sun lotions (I've checked the labels, and I didnt' see any DHA in them) Chilly Pepper, 2 Twisted, and I'm going to try the Bronzed Pepper but I haven't seen the label on that one yet, Otherwise, I'm going to try the Green Tea by Technique labs, and Dark Ginger, Go Dark and Brown Envy by Synergy, so any ideas on these?? Thanks so much Chica, you're a Big Help, I appreciate it

i love the color cosmetic bronzers give me but unfortunately i do NOT love the tan that they provide to my bras and clothes. also it makes me mad to watch my color go down the drain as a murky and brown solution in the shower. i vote dha.

none of those lotions have DHA except possibly Dark Ginger or Go Dark which I've never used so I don't know anything about. the Black Tea (sister product to Green Tea) contains DHA and I love that one.

If memory serves me correct,Go Dark is DHA.All of the Fiesta Sun line bronzers are cosmetic. My only issue with that line.

Breeze has a moisturizer with DHA in it, I just bought it today!

I love DHA bronzers. Cosmetics bronzers are fine, but some have too much color and "booger" up on you! Double the Bronzer will do that, but it will crank out some immediate color too!
Something gave me bronzer boogers today, what did I use???? I forgot!

I know this quote was from a while ago, but here goes...

DHA in products was made for the tanner to be able to SEE results rather quickly...like, before 48 hours...

A REAL tan takes up to 48 hours to show up...

What about the rest of you? What are your thoughts on cosmetic bronzers?

Anya1976
12-09-2003, 03:04 AM
well cosmetic bronzers seem like a waste of time since they just wash off. but if the are in a lotion that i am seeing good color from then they don't bother me much. but i do prefer a GOOD DHA bronzer.

I have only tried out one lotion that was a cosmetic bronzer and hated it. I got a few samples here that are part cosmetic bronzer I guess Cheeky Brown and Amarreto so kinda nervous to try em out.

I've never used a lotion with a cosmetic bronzer, only DHA. I wouldn't like a cosmetic, though, because it would look like make up and I would feel tan and then get out of the shower pale!!

I don't like cosmetic bronzers. I don't see what the point is with them. Now on the other hand I LOVE DHA bronzers
